Random PoA encounters on frequency

So I was flying 71G up to Sheboygan tonight to go to dinner at the Final Approach restaurant and see Ron White, and when I was near Juneau, I was half-listening to the frequency when I heard "six niner two seven yankee" and my ears perked up for a second. Sure enough, a squawk code was given to Aztec 27Y and I heard a familiar voice reply (now that I was actually listening!) The very next thing on frequency was Madison Approach turning me loose, so I replied with "Squawk VFR, 71G, hey Ted!" I heard "Hey Kent!"

I tuned in 122.75 on the #2 radio... And great minds clearly think alike, since when I asked if Ted was up on that frequency, there he was. We had a nice long chat, about 10-15 minutes, before the radios started to get fuzzy as we were flying away from each other at nearly 300 knots combined.

Any other random PoA encounters? I heard Lance on Green Bay Approach once too, and I want to say I heard someone else out of the blue another time but I can't remember who it was for sure.
 
I was hailed by some dood in a Deb a few years back coming out of Ft Worth, had an N# similar to mine too.
 
Last tuesday I was on an Angel Flight mission and had a fellow pilot (the owner of the AT-6) along. As we were tooling along towards Grand Forks ND we heard someone on the ATC frequency in a Mustang asking how far ahead the Baron he was following was. My friend recognized the voice as Doug Rozendaal, who I knew online via the BeechTalk Forum (he flies a B55 and the Mustang out of Iowa). We had a short chat on a separate frequency while passing in the opposite direction.
 
Well, Ted's ALWAYS flying EVERYWHERE, so you've got pretty much a 50/50 shot of hearing him on the radio if you go fly :lol:

That is pretty cool.

I hear 7111W on the radio all the time but I have not recognized if the voice is Grant or Leslie since that planes does get rented out.

I wonder how long until someone chides you for violating some radio reg for your 'hi ted' remark? SIGH!
 
So where is the printable in kneeboard format POA Pilot / Tail number cross reference list?

While monitoring 122.75 is an APIRPA call acceptable?

APRIPA = Any POA'r In Range Please Advise:D
 
I told Ted to be on 122.75 because I was out flying last night, and knew he was passing through. I called out for "Cloud Nine" a few times around 2200Z and then 2350Z, but heard nothing.
 
Shouldn't we be on 121.5 with a spare radio?

He probably passed through your area in between - I caught him around 0030Z checking in with Madison Approach, he had fueled up in Burlington (WI).
 
I was once flying from the Philly area down to Lynchburg VA on an Angel Flight and hear a pilot on Guard requesting some mundane info and hear Ron Levys unmistakable voice givning him a new freq and reminding him what Guard was to be used for.
 
Was great getting to catch up, Kent! Gotta love PoA, you always know someone somewhere, and frequently you run into friends.

My radio was on 121.5 for most of the flight (as it typically is - and a few times that's actually come in handy for me). I switched to 122.75 to talk to Kent, and switched to it to try to talk to Ed a few times (calling out for the Comanche), but no joy. I figured the times were just off.

I've had several times when just randomly flying along I heard a friend talking to ATC, said hi, and sometimes we talked to eachother on air-to-air for a bit. Most often it's my instructor, second most often it's some other animal rescue folk.
 
when i was flying charters i heard Dave S and Bruce on center frequency.

Heard Jesse flying into Des Moines one night a long time ago, but didn't know it was him then.
 
Last November on a Lifeline Pilots flight I was requested to climb for traffic. Thought I recognized the voice of the other political, and appended "especially if it's for Bruce" to my acknowledgment, and hear back "it is." He was with a student, so I didn't even bother going over to 122.75.

Heard Ted around Peoria coming back from Gaston's one year too.

Especially since that's one of three planes we fly. I have never felt censured by ATC for making BRIEF asides on frequency, and I only do it if it isn't too busy.

I've had controllers say "hi" to me and sometimes more than that. I haven't had any known POA encounters because I don't know anyone's N-number.

I hear several of the local fellow CFIs and other high time fliers in the local area. I also know several of the tower and approach folks, so I think it's appropriate and acceptable to say "hello" and "How are you?" and perhaps remark on the weather when the frequency isn't busy.
