Hey guys. I just have a quick question about Flightaware's color-coded METAR dots when you click on the map settings to show other airports in the area.

There is a red dot called LIFR or Low IFR and there is a magenta/purple dot called BCAT1. I want to know what does BCAT1 mean and if the weather conditions for BCAT1 is worse than Low IFR? Does BCAT1 stand for Category 1B ILS Approach conditions by any chance?

BCAT1 means Below Category 1. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's a ceiling of 200' agl or lower. Doesn't appear very often.

Below CATI. Remember, ceiling doesn't matter when shooting a precision approach. It's about the visibility.

Thanks for the answer guys! Is BCAT1 weather conditions worse than Low IFR weather conditions?

Not if your flying the heavy iron.
