Question about AOPA Pilot magazine.

I am a student pilot and AOPA member, and as a member I receive AOPA Pilot magazine. I do find it interesting, but for someone in my situation it's not very helpful. I see that AOPA also has Flight Training Magazine, and was curious as to whether i could substitute this for AOPA Pilot, or if it required paying a separate subscription.

You can switch it without fee or charge.

Flight Training is a good mag too (sometimes).
 
Give it a try if you want. I got bored with Pilot and switched to Flight Training even though I'm not a student thought it might be more interesting, I ended up switching back. ymmv.
FYI Flight Training is often on the magazine rack at the large bookstores, so you could always flip through and buy if something looks good, plus a lot of the content is I believe on the AOPA site just have to dig it up.
 
The only drawback to Flight Training that I found: I had a subscription to it long enough that I started to notice that topics would get recycled. They wouldn't use the same authors or articles, but the topics would come back around again. It makes sense, with new students coming in, and former students moving out. So having an issue with a bunch of articles about a particular topic (pick one: cold weather ops, crosswind landings or takeoffs, how to lean, ...) and then seeing the same topic repeated again 9 months or so later was pretty common.

I kind of wish I was getting it again, though. I do like reading some of the how-to articles to make sure that I haven't forgotten something along the way.
 
I've elected to get both mags, but if I had to choose only one, it would be Flight Training. I think it's a great publication, and includes sections for CFIs, folks who want to become professional pilots, etc.

Topics do get recycled sometimes, but what's wrong with a little reinforcement?
 
Well, sounds like a good read from the feedback. Would I have to call to have it switched, or can I do it from the website? I can't seem to find an option on the site.

I thought you could do it oniline in your account preferences, but a quick phone call will do it too.
 
The AOPA mag is airplane porn for the most part. Flight Training is probably more useful to you. I used to get that one and I thought it was well written.
 
As I am coming back from a couple year layoff I went with both mags. I thought the extra $17 a year was cheap, besides it helps pass the winter months.
 
I just registered a free account with AOPA. What are the dues for a real membership?
 
You used to be able to get a 6-month free subscription at your local FBO. I think we still have the coupons/vouchers/whatever.

I like Flight Training way better than Pilot, but I get both. :D

$39 per year and it includes the magazine of your choice discussed above. Auto renewals are $37 a year.
