We spent yesterday pulling 2000 ft of pipe for our new turf runway. This is the most amazing machine. It digs the hole and pulls the pipe. Then it fills the hole!

Remember June 14th for our fly-in breakfast. Last year we had 500 show up here in the desert of central Washington, where aviation is still alive.

Pretty common for laying cable in streets.

my grandfather built a vibrator plow on a small yard tractor many moons ago ... had to be in the early 70s - we used it to plow in telephone drops. They are cool for sure.

Even more common now is the horizontal boring or gopher machines

I've plowed in dual 4" poly lines and a three-phase 15KV line. Used a D-8 and a D-9 to get the job done. The upper 4" line had to be at least 48" below ground level. The total set-up with the two poly lines on huge reels and then three reels of electric line along with the two Cats makes up quite a train rolling across the desert. Sure gets the job done quick. Had to stop every 500' to reload the poly reels and that was the only thing slowing us down.

Turf? How much dirt are you going to have to haul in to cover those rocks?

The rocks are to the side of the runway. If you look at the picture again, you'll see (what used to be green, now yellow) hydroseeding. And that is on dirt.

What is the pipe for? Irrigation? Run light wires in?
