PROP Noise

So FAR 91.119(c) doesn't matter? Is there a FAR against screaming kids in restaurants?

I don't like spoiled kids either, but we as aviators are in trouble if the public decides to rise up and ground us because we don't care about those on the ground.

Our sin is not justified by someone else's sin.

Would I go buzz around treetop level, not likely, but would seeing someone do it drive me into a anti aviation frenzy, heck no. Bigger fish to fry in life.

Like I said, it depends on the length.

Further, the "stock" 2 blade can be differing lengths depending on if a seaplane kit was installed at the factory.

Came out of the amphib supplement, wonder if that factors in a factory seaplane?

Two or Three blade doesn't make much difference on a Cessna 185.

It is the length that counts. The McCauley "401" 86" 3 blade prop is obnoxiously loud.

I bought one and always wished I hadn't.

Love my C401-86. If I had to buy another prop today I'd buy another one. Noisy is pilot controlled. Break ground and dial it down.

It is great at pulling a heavy floatplane on to the step. But is is WAY slow in cruise and a poor climber.

Please reference the "Sedona Needs Our Help" thread.

95% of the U.S. population don't share the love for airplane noise and the above attitude leads to airports like Sedona needing our help.

just sayin'.......

I love hearing an airplane but I fully understand that most people don't.

Yep, want to make airplane noise? Go where you won't bother people. If you like it, move into an air park, or take advantage of the real estate deals under departure paths.

Personally I try to keep as quiet of a foot print as possible. Surprisingly a twin can make this easy to do because you have so much excess horsepower, you can run the engines at 65% power on take off, and still be making more HP that the HP SE stablemate shaking Windows and still out climb them. My typical noise abatement take off in the 310 would be 2450 and 25" which left it pretty quiet. On landings I never push the props forward until I have the power low enough that the governor stays full stop and the RPM doesn't surge.

Not familiar with that area, but who was there first, the airport or the houses.
If it was the airport I have zero sympathy for someone buying a home next door then wanting the airport shut down.
