I have occasional use for the kind of projector that hooks up to a computer and shows pictures on the screen/wall. I've used one fairly often, but have little knowledge of what they cost or what features they provide. My needs are very simple.
Any price ranges/names to suggest?
TIA

Hit www.projectorcentral.com as a starting place to learn what you might need.

I sell about 10 lines of projectors...low end to extremely high end.

The main thing to look for getting the right unit for your intended purpose. Useful units are running from $400.00 on up to as much as you care to spend...

Brightness, resolution (aspect ratio as well), input(s), weight/size/portability, ability to control light are some concerns to look at. Another thing is cost of ownership...some have expensive lamps...some have two or four lamps (if you are looking at a brighter unit)

I'll be glad to help you any way possible...kelvind (@) draughonbrothers.com

We routinely recommend Panasonic, Hitachi, Sanyo, EIKI, NEC and all for different reasons...

How dark will the room be? How big do you need the image? How far do you need to throw? How portable does it need to be?

I have the Epson 8350 projector which I use to project on the back wall of the hangar with the lights on for our wine club meetings or we kill the lights and turn the hangar into the movie theatre. You do get to tradeoff brightness for image size. I've been happy with it, but you are paying $1200 for the fun.

My use will be a once-a-month aviation group meeting in a room that is usually large and somewhat lit, though it can be darkened. Still photos and you tube videos are the main subjects projected. I hook the projector to my laptop and someone puts in a CD, thumb drive or such and off we go. Pretty casual and low budget.

Ok, I am sure Kelvin will set you up fine, but an inexpensive model with around 3000 lumens and XGA resolution should work. It will be a little bulky, but you aren't packing it into a suitcase. A lot of the newer ones are wireless and can connect to a tablet or smart phone (don't need a laptop).

OK, thanks. If you have a model or two in mind let me know. I can look based on that info, but I'm dumb as a post on this stuff.

It's probably a common feature now, but the last one I bought was a Canon and it had an automatic perspective (keystone?) control that was pretty cool. Set it up, turn it on and it automatically squared up the image for you. You wasn't at least 2000 lumens...the more the better. I paid $750 a few years ago. I know there are cheaper ones available.

Keep us posted on your decision. I'm casually in the market for another one if the price is right.
