Project 1958 C182A taildragger

I think $30000. is a little high for all of the work that is left to do. No radios, antenas? Wiring? Interior? gauges? Controls? I did one of these years ago. I paid $26000. for the project and wound up with about $42,000. beforeI was through.

Every plane looks good, IF you have an A&P friend.....:wink2:

Offer $2500, it'll probably be the "Best Offer" he's had. The plane has basically nothing and a damage history that most likely tore the gear off and did a bunch of other damage. Depending on the panel and engine/prop you want in it, if you get it for $2500, you'll have between $60 & $250K into it when done.

If I was looking for a taildragger in that class, I'd be more tempted to put the money into an airworthy C180 or C185. But, that's just me.

It would make a lot more sense wouldn't it... Projects have to be worthwhile in some form or another. You can buy a flying 180 for less than it's going to cost to get this thing flying.

Now you know why most A&P's don't have many friends.

I can only imagine how often you are asked "Tom, buddy, can you take a quick look at this for me?". I suppose it's true for most tech trades, lawyers, and doctors, too.

When is the request for free help OK and when is it not OK?

I would guess the appropriate way to find out would be to offer to pay with the request and let you decide. . . or start the request with - "can I have some free advice on X, or do you want me to hire you for this?"

In either example, of course, the requestor should be ready to pay.

If you want friends, buy a pickup truck.....

Want more friends? Buy a chainsaw too..........

Still more? Buy a code reader for analyzing (and resetting) "Check Engine Lights"

Ask me how I know this.:D

Or have a wife who likes to brag that her husband can fix anything.

Got the truck
Got three (3) chainsaws paid for none, they were all "dead and gone" and tossed
Got the code reader. Pays for itself EVERY time I use it

My wife tells everybody, "Oh bring it by the house, I'll bet he can fix it"......

Don't have friends. Makes life easier.
