Progress report on the grass-strip tour

Oh, and here are some pictures of stuff other than my airplane.

That pretty tractor belongs to the nice man who replaced my missing rivet. He was fascinating to visit with. He's owned 65 airplanes.

The antique airplanes are at the Antique Airfield in Iowa. It is unbelievable how many airplanes are hangared there! If you land going up the hill there and don't know you are going up a hill, you might bounce...don't ask me how I know that.

I liked the sign inside the building at Tri-County (2C6), the airport that Bruce flies into with his students. It's a neat little airport, and Dave has worked very hard to keep it up and active. Dave was incredibly helpful when I stopped there. It's wonderful to see a grass airport flourish and grow.

BTW, why is there a strong crosswind everywhere I go every day?????

That is where I bought my Cougar last summer that I am redoing. It was orange and in one of the back hangers.

Diana--- I finally took time to sit and read your entire trip thread. I was away from the computer for a long time there so I couldn't follow along. I am glad to read that one of your highlites was the stop at Grimes, Bethel, Pa. I had visited there with my brother in law that lives a few miles south. What a trip and we all enjoyed it right along with you. Thanks Bob

I think that Grimes was one of the airfields that you suggested. Quite a place! I wish there would have been more time to hang out there.

Bob, what a nice thing to say. Actually, the trip was so much more special because of my friends here, not only those that put me up (put up with me), but those of you who provided moral support on the forum and via emails. You guys rock!!!!!

Now when are you planning the Western swing of all grass strips. I would love to have you stop in Vale and visit. We don't have grass but we have a good gravel strip. We also have about 26 great building size murals to see most on the Oregon Trail theme. This is one of them that is on the side of the Luthern Church. Snake River Crossing.

The latest development...EAA has asked me to be a forum presenter at Oshkosh this year to talk about the grass-strip tour. Sooooo, I'll be talking about you guys. It would be nice to see some of you there for moral support, just like when you were with me on the trip.

Sounds good. If I feel better tomorrow (that's the plan) and if it is flyable weather (that's the plan), I will land at Jersey Shore sometime tomorrow. I don't mind hanging out at airports for hours. That's one of the reasons why I'm going on this trip. BTW, is there a bathroom at Jersey Shore?

Some friends visited are grass strip Sunday evening in there gcbc, you are more than welcome. Kind of cool when you go off the se end it drops down about 120' into a valley. YYYYYYYYIIIIIIPPPPPEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Hahahahahahaha. No real building for me! Just the usual sweating, freezing, group showers, riding a Goodwill kid's bike, sloshing through the water in the rain, etc. just like everyone else. Except I'll probably have to tote more stuff this time.

I had time today at lunch to read the whole thread.....wow Diane you should be really proud of yourself, what a trip!!!! All the people wishing you well is another big wow!!!!! I think you are carring the torch for alot of us that wish we were with you. If you get a moment when your up there......look off to your right and left and just picture all us up there flying along side you.... now wouldn't that be something!!!!

Good Luck the rest of the way, will be watching the rest of the story.

It WAS a great trip Willie. The sense of freedom to enjoy that kind of flying around our beautiful country was quite exhilarating. And the friendly and helpful people were a bonus.

The people here are incredible. I really, really appreciate them.
