Privately Owned Harrier Takes Flight

Now that rocks. I was just thinking today, after reading about recent troubles with F15s, that the likelihood of us seeing modern warbirds like the F16, F14,and F15 in private hands were slim. This gives me a little hope. Very little. But it's nice to dream.

“That thrust is controlled by four external nozzles all controlled by a single lever actuated by the pilot’s left hand. There are no fancy computers that make it fly; it’s completely manual.”

I thought that although the pilot had general control over the nozzles, a computer still did constant adjustment to retain stable flight, and it would be impossible to fly without it, ala F16 and others...

That is just completely and utterly awesome.

Then again, owning any military aircraft is. I just hate to think how much fuel that thing burns.

have they gotten it fixed after the hydraulic failure/landing gear collapse?
