Well, I have both of my Win7 laptops up and running now. They both seem to be operating adequately.

The latest disappointment, though, is that I can't find a driver for my old laser printer that's Win7 compatible.

It's a Sharp AL-1540CS. I never thought about printer compatibility being an issue and I really hate to lose this one. It's been bulletproof and it's really cheap to operate.

Any ideas?

I assume you meant XP compatible or perhaps Vista, but if the printer is Win7 compatible, Win7 drivers must be available.

I had a similar problem with a HP laser printer and a new (ironically) HP laptop which is currently the only computer I have running Win7 (64 bit pro). I found a partial solution using a Win7 driver for a similar but newer model printer that some online resources suggested would work. Perhaps you can find something like that.

Tim,

I think you mean the AL-1540CS? That's the model I could find.

I went here:

http://www.sharpusa.com/CustomerSupport/ProductDownloads.aspx

...and selected "MFPs & Printers" in the "Find Product Downloads" side. Then selected "Model Not Listed" in the Model pulldown menu, typed AL-1540CS in the box, and clicked Search.

It does turn up a driver (approx. 6.5 MB download size), but says it only goes up to Vista 32.

Like Lance, I'd guess trying a Win 7 driver for a newer model and maybe that would work. It appears it's just a GDI/TWAIN driver anyway...

Rich,

Yeah, I guess I double struck the "1" (fixed it above). I guess the similar model driver is worth a try. Thanks gents.

Yeah, like I know what the he** THAT is!

Yes, there are some "orphans" out there. Mainly because the companies no longer support them and have not issued updated drivers for Win7. I have an old scanner that I like, but it won't run on Win7 either. Oh well. I like the Win7 pretty much, so I just had to accept that the old scanner is - old.
