Preflight checklist

[Sport Pilot]

During my preflight checklist today, I noticed aviation fuel leaking from the engine. I brought it to the attention of my CFI.

Flight cancelled so I made the 2 1/2 hour drive back home.

CFI said I made a great catch on this one. Turns out it was the fuel pump.

Nice job. Someone else on here, I believe, once said something like the purpose behind pre-flighting is to find reasons not to fly.

Better to do a thorough job and find those problems on the ground rather than in the air!

Yup. Most accidents are pilot error. Many if not most of those errors happen before take off. Many before the engine is even started

I'd much rather end the flight voluntarily before takeoff than at altitude with an engine fire.
