Prebuy mechanic said take pants off...

I flew my Archer through my training and for years after with the pants on. Never had an issue. I didn’t really do any grass strip or back country type stuff though.

I flew with no pants every flight during private training.

I know a woman who flies around with no top. She flies a Stearman.

I prefer to leave the pants on.
Simple reason is that they act as fenders to reduce water and runway grit from being thrown against the prop, fuselage, and wings. I’ve encountered more prop erosion damage from no pants than damage to the pants.
However, I also don’t land on Unmowed grass strips.

How much do the pants weigh. Didn’t know they added speed, just thought older planes eventually lost them.

Depends on the mfg'r but if I recall Cessna usually put the weight for all 3 fairings at 16-18lbs.
the actual weight includes all three, with the backing plates, axel nuts, and pants.. 35 pounds

FYI: Don't know where you got your figures from, but since you inquired:

You might consider an airframe log entry identifying the removed equipment along with an update of the W&B sheet for legality.

you quoted 1 model of how any models ?
your part numbers don't include the 3 parts. backing plates, axel nuts and attaching hardware.
Put all the pieces on a scale and weigh them.
Remember Cessna made wheel pants for all models 120 thru 195, metal and fiberglass.
the 172 series had several construction methods, metal, fiberglass, and plastic.
OBTW the 172S has lightweight fiberglass.

also, one should know which tires were used.

Those are examples of 3 models... a 150, a 172, and a 182 which falls right into what I stated in Post 47.

Well if you had bothered to look up the first example where I gave you the kit number you'll find it does contain all those parts plus others and all at 18 lbs added weight. Same as to the other 2 examples. I figured a man of your experience already knew that on Cessna equipment lists items with an asterisk* indicate complete assembly installation weights with only some of the major components listed below the asterisk line. But just so you don't think I'm trying to pull a fast one on you, here's the 150 kit inventory list and the POH asterisk NOTE:;)

I actually weigh the items. Or do you think 1 size fits all.
So the manufacturer's data is wrong and you are right? Got any actual examples of Cessna fairing kits weighing 35 lbs? Now I do have an example of a 172S wheel brake and tire assembly weighing 35 lbs. Perhaps you just read the wrong line when you posted earlier?

So you can bet the data fits into your fits all theory.
Doesn't matter to you that there are different pants.
My customers demand better data than that, they want actual weights.

Okay. So which Cessna wheel fairings weigh as much as a 172 wheel, brake and tire assembly, i.e., 35lbs?
Irrelevant !

do you realize the data you quoted was from a 1976 aircraft. yet you quote a 172-S (1981)
but that is good enough for your customers??

When you do a computation of the new weight & balance do believe the old sheet is correct?

Perhaps taking a moment to consider a different kind of "pants" will calm everyone down a little ... :p

Saw him in concert at a church up in Charlotte several years ago. Almost the whole thing was laugh out loud funny.

Ha. You do realize my replies are only in reference to your post below. Don't know what direction you're going.o_O

Or have you forgotten about that post already? I gave you actual references to the 16-18lb fairings and you have yet to provide a 35lb fairing reference. Try to stay on point.....;)

The mechanic working this airplane or advising should be able to address the legality of proper documentation. Surly he didn’t advise to yank them without considering the obvious requirement of a log entry and amended W&B?

Funny that you don't realize that all the 172 don't the weigh the same.
you get confused when you only have a book to read.
Have you ever really seen a 172 wheel pant?
You quote data from a 1976 and expect the 1981 data to be the same, when the 1976 was plastic and the 1981 is fiberglass

Do your customers depend upon computations, or do they want real weights.
Mine want a new weight & Balance and new equipment list.
Do the whole job..

Seen, removed, and installed plenty wheel fairings. Don't remember your 35lb post do we? I understand. Psst...it was #48.;)

Understand you don't, understand real world, things get repaired, altered, and weights change.
how many times have you seen the pants off, and the backing left on.
Get real world, your one fits all concept will get some one hurt.

I doubt it.
Still haven't figured out what your replies have to do with your post on 35lb wheel fairings vs 16-18lb fairings... unless you mean that when you repair or alter wheel fairings they end up weighing 35 lbs?

see how many shapes, and sizes you can see on E-Bay
i.html

they are all the same --- right.

simple,, you can't tell the difference from a brake and a pant.
Ive never mention a brake! you did.

I thought you said take pants off because your mechanic was going to beat you or rob your wallet haha
