Wow, that was quick. Sorry to hear that. But thankfully it did before you spent any money on a pre-buy inspection.

I would say not "Back to the drawing board", but an opportunity to find a better aircraft at a similar or lower price. What plane are you looking for? Maybe someone the forum might have a lead on what you're seeking.

Nothing kills a deal like a non-refundable deposit..

With kids in college my budget is a little light.. First Choice 1972 to 1976 Piper Cherokee with standard six pack instrument set up. Second Choice 1980 to 1982 Piper Tomahawk II with low hours.. this will be harder to come by. I am still kicking myself in the butt for selling the one I had. Or, buy into a partnership locally KCMA, KSZP, KOXR), but this too has been hard to come by.
