This may be elementary for you tech guys, but I thought I would share my "opps" with you.

I bought a new AC router after upgrading our cable service to a higher internet speed. I could not get it to work! It would "reboot after a couple of mins. Had 3 cable guys out and no joy.

The 4th cable guy came today and he asked me about the new power source for the new router. I told him I had just plugged it into the old power source. Come to find out it wasn't putting out enough amps.

We plugged in the new power source and it has been rock solid for hours! :D

The down side is Geico can now post 3 times faster than before!

And here I was expecting to see a thread on woodworking. Oh well.

Don't feel bad, it happens quite often, especially with USB power and to the lesser extent with PoE.

I have an ever growing collection of wall worts for products I no longer own. LOL.

Wall worts?

You've never heard that term for the silly little transformers you plug into outlets? ;)

I keep thinking if I ever build a custom home someday it'll include a proper DC electrical distribution system alongside the AC. Plugs on the wall.

Stepping down from say 24VDC to any device would be a cakewalk. Voltage regulator and a cable. No transformers needed.

Anyone with a radio room already does this on a smaller scale but usually at 12VDC. Since laptops and junk are all higher now, a central system would need to be 24VDC.

Telco standardized on 48VDC decades ago.

Add batteries and a good charge controller you're ready for solar.

I guess you guys in the non certified world learn to live with things like that. That's why I only use certificated power supplies. :D

It's spelled "wart", not "wort". A wart is something akin to a tumor or mole, which is why the ugly things are called "wall warts". A wort is a kind of a liquid produced when foodstock is fermented.

Also! We park our airplanes in hangars, and we slow them down with brakes.

That makes no sense. The slang term was created to describe what they look like. Worts on the wall. "Wart" is meaningless.

Ahh for goodness sakes. He's right. Unless I'm making beer with electrical transformers. :(

Long day. And then I cleaned ceiling fans.

It's okay. Just this week, I wrote that brakes were "hydrolic". And that "hillcock" was near a runway. Both were at Purple Board where my poor spelling persona lives.
