Political drama...

I’m trying hard to opt out. I’m retirement eligible at work, but paying our own insurance for the next five years keeps me working. At this point, though, just enough hours to get benefits at Costco or Scooters Coffee is looking more and more appealing. Nothing like corporate nonsense to suck the joy out of a career I used to love.

At least, it is soon happening. (I bought a red hat) :)

This thread will go far with the current 80 member Management Council.

'cause of course there's no ROC issues yet. And no other threads along the same line.

Got one of these but it ain't exactly red ...

What color is it then? LOL

I guess it is red but it's pretty light as amaranth red would be as compared to a darker red. Hard to see the true color in a photo. Maybe I should have ordered the "grey" color .. or is that "gray"?

He calls it Cessna 140 Red.

I have never worked in an office. Unless the cockpit counts. As in race car and airplane.

Although I am looking to retire. That means I'll be working in an office somewhere in Wyoming.

Retiring shortly. Tomorrow is my last planned work day, then I'll be on vacation through Jan with retirement starting 2/1/21. I spent this morning boxing up my office and hauling all my personal stuff out to the truck.

Going to feel pretty weird. This will be the first time I've been unemployed since I was 15.

Great, then you will have no excuse for not meeting up with me and my wife in the spring for a motorcycle ride in the mountains, except for already having met me :D .

Congrats! Enjoy your well earned retirement. Only 777 days for me, but who's counting?

I’m retired and it’s better than I thought, all politics aren’t on my radar. Just enjoying the golden years. Now if aviation insurance would come down I would be even happier.

FYI: If you follow the majority of us, 6 months after that magic day you will find yourself busier than you ever been and wondering how you ever had the time for a job.;)

Yeah, I can easily see that happening.

If I could just find the right plane to buy I’d be happier! At the moment I’m saving a fortune on aircraft insurance by not buying any. :)

When my Father retired it took about 3 months for him to wish he still had a job to go to for some rest!

I've always subscribed to, "I work a little every day, I don't work a lot any day" So retirement for me doesn't seem needed. (written at age 54. check back in 20)

Before I retired, I paid attention to the people who lamented they were busier after they retired and I also paid attention to the cases where the retiree just sat around doing nothing (and soon passed away). For me, it's a matter of doing things I enjoy and also being able to say "no".

Retired twice, once 24 years ago, went into consulting where I was able to choose when and where to work and the hell with it 14 years ago. Consulting office was a chairlift at Steamboat or a beach somewhere or somebody else’s location. Life is good.
Cheers

I was told the key to that difference, especially the latter, was one needed to retire to something vs retire from something. Of all things I've learned in the past 6.5 years, this holds the most truth.

A good way to put it...

I may never retire.

I tried it. It's overrated.

I don't think I know a single exception to that in my circle of family, friends and acquaintances. I went "back to work" so I could slow down.

That and the fact Mrs. GRG55 kept telling all her friends life was 4 times worse after I retired..."Half the income, twice the husband".

Based on my relationship with the Infernal Revenooers, I have calculated my retirement age at 106.

If you retired and are busier than when you worked, are you doing things you love to do? If yes, then what is the problem? If no, then STOP doing things you don't love to do.

This isn't rocket science.

Right. The rocket science is what I’m retiring from.
