Planeless

After 4 weeks grounded, I got desperate. I got stupid. I flew a high wing.

Got checked out in that peach today. Going to take a couple more hours to get comfortable in it. I was surprisingly rusty. 4 weeks is the longest I've gone since I got my ticket.

I miss Pipers.
Welcome to the dark side!

I reupped my night currency in the Arrow last night after 30 hours in a 172… I forgot how heavy that nose was!

@nauga : Everything was fine until the grid was shut down by planeless here.
@kayoh190: They caused an explosion!
@Ted : Is this true?
@GeorgeC : Yes sir, it’s true. This man has no plane.

Now wait a minute - not sure how I feel about being called dic...errr...planeless!

In the phone call the tower asked me to turn the aircraft toward them prior to taxi, so they could see I was ready. They gave me the green light and I taxied to the run up area. Once I was ready to depart I once again turned toward the tower. Got the green light and off I went.

A Cessna was taxiing toward the run up area as I was getting ready to depart. That must’ve looked strange. Still, it’d not gone as well squawking 7600. Those rules were written long before we all had phones in our pockets.

Week 8: Okay jokes and hyperbole aside, I'm REALLY beginning to miss my airplane, especially as weather gets nicer. Paint shop said the plane *should* be through the paint booth this week, which means probably another 2 weeks to include re-assembly, weighing the plane, and adding in a headliner. I'm conservatively estimating another 3 weeks, and also going stir crazy.

My plane is in the paint shop for a few months. I thought I should chronicle my increasing despair as my planelessness (yes that's now a word) grows.

Week 1: This is okay, sad to not have the plane for the moment, but I had a great adventure getting the plane to the paint shop and I'm SO excited to have it painted, this is fantastic!

Week 2: The yearning for flying grows, I more eagerly look up every time I hear a plane and try to identify it. Paint shop sends a picture of the plane ready to be stripped, and my excitement returns.

Week 3: Internal anger is growing. Jealousy of overflying aircraft is becoming palpable, perhaps there's a desire to close the nearby airport to keep those selfish rich few with their "planes" away from me. No... I must not give in to the dark side.
Which paint shop?

I have all the luck. I got 3 hours in the 172. Meet with the cfi to do a night checkout, and the ammeter was showing a discharge. Maintenance looked at it the next day, and it appears the alternator went out. It's annual expires this month, so it's going in early.

Planeless again.

Even money on whether it gets out of annual before my plane is back together.

This is why you need 2. Or in your case, apparently 3.

My main plane is down as well…. Whoopsie

that must have been one HELL of a landing! :D :p
I thought tires were supposed to absorb all that?? o_O

Haha… Didn’t feel it until the taxi back. Felt like a tire losing air or a bad wheel bearing. Got it parked, checked everything - didn’t see anything. I then nursed it back to our hangar. That pic was from our AP. I’m glad it held as long as it did!

Was that the Arrow?

Trust me, it looks worse in person. It was painted by the club members in the 80's. With a brush. Somebody scraped ice off the wings, and took about half the paint with it.

It's got wings in the right place and a motor though...
Fixed.

Just to make sure no one thinks I did anything drastic, in weeks 9 through 11 I scored a 98% on my FIA (CFII) written and have begun (ground) lessons to poke massive holes in my instrument flying knowledge. Plane *should* be back at the end of this week or next at the latest.

The race is on. My prop is supposed to show up tomorrow. Hang it, get everything adjusted... should be able to get her home this week.

If mine isn't back in my hangar right now I'm gonna lose it. Or just go with it since I really don't have a choice of A&Ps. I've only been down two weeks so I'll thank my lucky stars.

Picking mine up Saturday...

You might beat me by a day, but I only have a 2.0hr flight home.
Prop didn't show up yesterday as promised. Or today apparently. Sigh.

Unsurprisingly, the prop didn't show up until today :rolleyes:, so I'm not getting her back this week. Also unsurprisingly, It's looking like I might be able to get into the field next week, so who knows when i'll be able to make the trip down.

I did get this today that I ordered back in December....does that count?
