ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A small plane made an emergency landing in a New Jersey mall parking lot Tuesday, slightly injuring the instructor and student inside but apparently hurting no one on the ground.

And, of course, the obligatory:
The landing marks the third accident involving small planes in New Jersey this month.

That's why I always file. Won't crash as long as I file. Yep. Glad everyone is ok.

Back in the early 90's, a plane landed on I-80 just outside of that very mall. IIRC, he ran out of gas because he didn't file a flight plan :). It added 5 minutes to the commute that morning (traffic was always slow there). The police had the plane (I think it was a Cherokee or another low wing) off on the grass so as not to hinder traffic any more.

My car-pool partner asked how the plane got there...uhhh he flew?

I have two questions that could answer why they're there.
1. Was it one of the pilots' anniversary?
2. Did he forget to buy his wife something before he went flying?

Oy, Fox News had to call it a "CRASH" landing. The plane looks pretty in tact to me.

I wonder why the nose gear collapsed?
Probably the same reason the tires blew... PIC probably put it down hard and stood on the brakes as soon as it touched down. I know I would. :D

That's a tight squeeze there... I'd say it was a job very well done.

Damn good thing it wasn't a Saturday!!! :yikes:

Speaking from experience Matt? ;)

Did the graphic on Fox say Crashed Cessna (D)?

I don't remember. All I know they emphasized the word "crash". Fox is not the only news outlet that sensationalizes this stuff, and they have several pilots on their lineup including John Scott and Trace Gallagher.

We've all lost since Miles O'Brien left CNN, although he didn't have as much room to inject the truth when they made him an anchor.

Fixed it for them.
This was a training plane. No one wants to have an accident. But isn't it better that we learn mistakes on small airplanes before tackling the big boys. Or is it a Darwinian event that some pilots realize their difficulties before taking down a Boeing 737?
