Plane Down In Fishers Indiana (KUMP)

I don't recognize the aircraft type. I don't see a tail number either.

From LiveATC KUMP archive 1500 - 1530 UTC

23:45 Helicopter calls 4 mile straight in approach runway 15
25:00 Helicopter calls short final
25:15 Helicopter scolds aircraft for taking the runway with him on short final
26:40 Helicopter calls in the crash at the end of the runway

Sounds like the accident aircraft was the one that was departing with the helicopter on short final. There was no radio call from the departing aircraft. Perhaps on the wrong frequency.

Link says file not found

It does not look like one of the Skycatchers. An RV perhaps?

A preliminary investigation indicates that the plane, a Van's RV-12 single-engine propeller aircraft, crashed under unknown circumstances and caught fire shortly after departing the airport, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro. Only one person was aboard the craft at the time.

The link only captures the first 20 minutes so it misses the relevant radio calls. Not sure why. I had the same problem when I tried to post the link. If you go to LiveATC and for KUMP at 1500Z it will capture the 10 minutes.

it's weird, when I search the archives, I get the full 30 minutes (actually 31). when I 'save link as', like I did above, it gives 19 minutes, and when I save the mp3 locally it's only 17 minutes. sorry, I tried.

sad either way.

#cirruslife......:rolleyes::rolleyes::D

I was looking at the Van's site. Looks like the fuel tank sits behind the passenger seat. Don't think I would like that..

It was apparently designed that way to facilitate removing the wings.

The pilot has been identified. I didn't know him or recognize the plane. RIP

FISHERS, Ind. — The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has identified the pilot who died after a small plane crashed in Fishers Thursday. Hamilton County Coroner John Chalfin said 78-year-old Norman Levine, a Carmel resident, was killed in the crash. An autopsy will be conducted Friday to determine the cause of death.

Hangar neighbor of someone I know. Plane was KMQJ based.
