Plane down in Aurora, CO

Supposedly that guy was an A320 captain for a major airline. Go figure.

In my experience many of the senior folks in any trade/industry/technology suffer from a similar problem. Their actions and words indicate that they are above criticism and that anything they do is just okay. Internally it's tough to prevent the attitude because these folks tend to be very good at what they do. Unfortunately they forget that we all make errors...

It's one of the conundrums of the safety process, sort of an mash-up of complacency and invulnerability. I'm comfortable saying that no one has figured out how to prevent it.

What was he thinking? Seriously, what was his mindset? Invincible?

The plane was aerobatic, doesn't mean he was. ;)

The floor for aerobatics is (I believe) 1,500' AGL. There is a reason why my minimums are 2,000'.

 :hairraise:

I can't imagine how he thought he could get away with this. I mean, multiple 911 calls from neighbors and got his picture taken by FAA inspectors?

Even if he hadn't crashed, he'd have been in big trouble. Maybe suicidal?

I would have thought suicide as a possibility too until I saw him roll quickly left then right just before impact trying to keep the wings level in an accelerated stall.

Actually, the floor is 0 AGL, as this pilot found out. :yikes:

What is it about people who break man-made rules that makes them think that they can also break the laws of physics?

26,000 hours. He knew better. He also played by a lot of rules to get that far.

Too bad he hadn't worked out a frequency with his pilot buddy who probably had a handheld. Maybe the "Just stop" and his tone of voice would have snapped him out of stupid-land.

And ruined a perfectly good airplane in the process..... I know you cannot recreate a human... BUT.. They ain't making Aerostars anymore either..:(..

I live life as full as I can and my motto is laugh all the way to the grave...

But.........

When I see a dangerous pilot do and say dangerous stuff I will point that out and not hold back on my feelings...

When I see a dangerous mechanic do and say dangerous stuff, I will point that out and not hold back on my feelings...

When I see a topic directed to at a segment of aviation because it might threaten someones livelyhood and that topic is totally unfounded I am speaking up..

On the flip side of the flip side of the coin...

If I see a fellow pilot needing a custom machined part I have stopped what I was doing and fabricated it for him.

If I see a fellow pilot in need I have stopped what I was doing and tried to save their lives, when that turned out to be impossible I then stept forward and cleaned up the mess to help their loved ones move forward in their lives...

I am who I am................... and I ain't changing....

With that, I am signing out and wish all you a safe and fruitful life...
