Plane crash in Georgetown, SC

That jet was known to be very unstable at approach speeds.

I'm really sorry to hear that. What a cool plane.
The story caught my eye because I am leaving OMN for JZI on Saturday then on to GGE on Thursday.

You'll fly right over my home at KLRO.

Just saw on the local news that the pilot was attempting a aileron roll at 200 feet when he went in.

89 year old dude flying a vintage jet doing an aileron roll at 200'.....sounds like suicide....or at least he wasn't in a hurry to go on living.

I'm betting he wasn't attempting one. Something probably happened to him or the plane that did that. Not sure he would fly all the way down from WV to commit suicide in the Midwest of nowhere in SC. If he were taking off at the time I could imagine him doing a roll to show off.

The news said he was "showing off for friends." But we all know how accurate news reports can be.

Not sure what friends. He wasn't from here. The Charleston reporters probably didn't know there was a Charleston, West Virginia.

Ah, just read a more recent report that his family was visiting Georgetown. Probably were at the airport and he probably was showing of. Too bad because I'm sure he has probably done it many times before.

I had some problems after takeoff once and put her right back on the runway. There is an RC club located here and about 15 people saw this.
A couple weeks later I was talking with one of them and they informed me they thought I was a fool showing off like I did a couple weeks earlier. I told him I show off for no one and that I was having an emergency and needed to return to the runway.
He walked off mumbling something to the effect of...hey right...I yelled at him, put your butt in that plane and see if you show off.
Some people believe they are never wrong about anything.
