Hey hey everyone, thought I would throw out an invite to my pilot pals for my birthday. This is going to be my big party, because hopefully I'll be on another continent for my 40th.

Here's the details my wife put together:

Saturday, June 13 at 6:00pm
Come celebrate Shane Schmidt's last year of his 30's with us! We will have Salt Lick BBQ catered, but please BYOB/tea/soda/coolers/ice. We don't have enough room to store drinks, so be aware. Open invite, bring whoever - just need a headcount ASAP so we can order enough BBQ. Hope to see you there!

She said she needs a hard head count no later than Monday June 8, so you'll need to reply here with how many you're bringing so I can keep tally.

If you have Facebook, just add me as a friend and I can send you the event invite. Otherwise, you'll have to PM me your cell and I'll text you my address and/or calendar invite.

I've got a buddy in town through the following day, otherwise I'd consider crashing your party to meet some of you guys finally.

Damn that BBQ pit looks good. Unless you're throwing the party in the Tampa area, I can't make it. :)

Oh I'm sure there will be more in the near future. Catch you on the next one!

Doesn't it! Love that pit every time I see it. :)

I'd love to come. My birthday is the day before that, but we are heading north instead of West.

Too bad I am in San Diego :( Good BBQ is awesome.

Happy Birthday btw!!!

Salt Lick - mmmmmm!

Happy Birthday. Won't be in Austin area then

oh.my.god. that looks amazing.

Thanks for the invite, heading up to mass. For the summer. Maybe another time,Happy Birthday.

I agree!

Shane, tell me that is not on your porch! Otherwise, I am moving next door.

It might as well be! No, it's about 6 miles west of me, we just happen to be lucky enough to live "next door" to the best place.

Thanks everyone for the Birthday wishes! I'll keep an eye out for those envelopes that I'm sure all of you are putting in the mail. :yesnod:

jeez for a second there I thought you were going to tell me you had that pit at your house. Put's my pig cooker to shame.

Sorry, but I've got another family event going on this week and will be unable to attend.
On the good news: My stepson after a year or so on the waiting list got a transplant of kidney and pancreas on Saturday (also his birthday). So far things are going well.

That's great news Ron. I wasn't aware of his need, but I am very happy to hear that it seems to be working out. Tell him that some old man in Florida wishes him a very very happy birthday!

Well now that's a birthday present if I ever heard of one! Congratulations, and I hope he heals quickly!

oy -- I have to attend a wedding that day

What's the closest public airport to the Salt Lick? I cannot make the event, but definitely will hit you up and take you there next time I am in the Austin area.

PS. Welcome to the old fart's club.

Now get off my lawn!

Seriously, Happy Birthday!!

And can we start a new hobbit inspired tradition with you where those that attend your party all get top of the line Squawk Shoppe headsets?

Closest airport to me and Salt Lick right up the road is HYI. Redbird has awesome crew cars and John runs the FBO.

I always wanted to fly into the Austin Area. I always wanted to make a position report over 41XS (over 41XS, no I don't think I'll ever get over 41XS).

I have done that position report, it was much calmer in my cockpit.

Hehe, ya!

Well when y'all find yourselves at the PUKIY intersection (IAF) on the RNAV for 17 at HYI, look down and I'll be waving at you. Fly over low enough, and you'll see I'm waving with only my middle finger. :goofy: nyak nyak

Salt Lick BBQ ---- yuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Sadly, I'll be winging my way in the opposite direction that day, to Spain. I'm chaperoning a school trip for my daughter Stef (you remember her -- the future aviatrix at the Wings FlyBQ).

Enjoy!!!

Andrew

Will do! Have fun sleeping in the hotel hallway to make sure everyone stays in their own rooms! :p

Dang! If I wasn't moving that weekend I'd consider jumpseating down there!

Dude, that picture is the best invite ever! :)
I'll be there, I'll give you a headcount by Monday.

Hehe, I thought y'all would like that!

eewww, moving is gross. Well stay hydrated! I'll be eating salted meat products and washing them down with moisture absorbing alcohol. I should be fine...:yesnod:

Ok y'all. Last chance to get some food! If you don't PM me or call/text me that you're coming for sure, NO Q FOR U! :)

The wife gave everyone until tomorrow (Wednesday June 10) to get in as Salt Lick said they only needed 2-3 days notice.

In that case, I might bring the wife. Will there be enough pilot wives for her to talk to? She sure wouldn't want to stick with me and listen to stories about fish 20' long, low-passes 1" off the tarmac, thermals bumping up to space ... you get the idea.

My wife is one, and some friends of hers from the hospital will be here as well, so she'll be good.

Mmmmm, MMMM, it's almost time fo' some of that DEELicious bbq! See y'all tomorrow!

We got 40 pounds of meat (brisket, ribs, sausage, turkey), which should be enough for everyone to get a plate, but I highly doubt that's going to last very long with this crowd, so if any of you show up after about 8 or 9, it'll probably be nothing but a scrap of potato salad. So no dilly dallying!

There is plenty of parking on Crystal Creek and Ranger, and the neighbors know what's up, so just park where you can. The count is at about 80-90 people right now, so you may have to park a ways down.
You'll see a large open gate on the side of the property, just come on in and follow the flames from the fire pit.

No worries, my wife is planning on attending too and I promised her that there will be plenty of pilot wives to talk to and complain how us pilots only talk about flying. :)

Why is it that every time I read this thread title I see:

Pot Party At the Schmidt House!

Flashbacks I guess. Or wishful thinking! ;)

You guys have a great time...I'm still grounded for another week.

HBD Shane!

Your neighbors know what is going on huh? So, when are the police going to show up? Lol

My BBQ brings all the neighb's to the yard. In other words, I "paid them off" in saucy goodness. :)

Thanks a lot, bud, happy birthday again ... and don't forget to post pictures of your sombrero! :)

You mean this one?
