ISFJ again...same as last time. Dang, I'd rather have something more fun. :D Same problem as being a Virgo.

http://typelogic.com/isfj.html

ISFJs are characterized above all by their desire to serve others, their "need to be needed." In extreme cases, this need is so strong that standard give-and-take relationships are deeply unsatisfying to them; however, most ISFJs find more than enough with which to occupy themselves within the framework of a normal life. (Since ISFJs, like all SJs, are very much bound by the prevailing social conventions, their form of "service" is likely to exclude any elements of moral or political controversy; they specialize in the local, the personal, and the practical.)

ISFJs are often unappreciated, at work, home, and play. Ironically, because they prove over and over that they can be relied on for their loyalty and unstinting, high-quality work, those around them often take them for granted--even take advantage of them. Admittedly, the problem is sometimes aggravated by the ISFJs themselves; for instance, they are notoriously bad at delegating ("If you want it done right, do it yourself"). And although they're hurt by being treated like doormats, they are often unwilling to toot their own horns about their accomplishments because they feel that although they deserve more credit than they're getting, it's somehow wrong to want any sort of reward for doing work (which is supposed to be a virtue in itself).

Poll coming. The poll is private in nature unless you wish to comment.

INTJ, this time. I sometimes score ENTJ, depending on how social I'm feeling when I do these tests. And, as usual, the recommended careers are law and engineering. I'm an engineer.

I already know I'm an INTJ. I secretly dream of being like Sauron. Except for the part about getting beat by hobbits.

Incidentally I started a similar thread on the red board a couple of years ago. Half the votes were from INTJs and ENTJs.

ENTJ...Military trained....with a bunch of famous military people...makes sense. I will forget that Hillary Clinton was also a ENTJ...well it makes sense too :)

We can conclude, so far, that the is a plurality of respondents are INTJ's and a majority are xxTJ's. Not sure that it means anything, but it is what it is. :dunno:

I thought this was pretty interesting...
Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging
Approximately 2-3 percent of the American population
But they make up 30% of the POA respondents.

http://benbenson.com/data/001/type/type-intj.html

We are just weird. I don't include myself in that though since I am an ISTP. :)

I finally did this test. I came up in the INTJ category.

It would be interesting to speculate what characteristics in this category seem so common with those who are pilots. I have a few ideas but the hour is late.

Most of the studies I have researched indicate 1-2% of the population as a whole is an INTJ. My hypothesis was that pilots, collectively, are of one personality type more than others. That has been proven true with our relatively small sample size. The question now becomes, why?

Piloting requires a good logical thought process, good judgment and intuitive thinking. I can't explain the introvert side of things.

Wow I just took the test, and I am an INTP. Scary thing is that the profile description pretty much fits me spot on.

http://benbenson.com/data/001/type/type-intp.html

and it turns out I am in good company. According to this site other famous INTPs incluse Albert Einstein, Nietzche, LtCdr Data, and Peter Parker :).

Certain personality types may be overrepresented in this poll because:
1) Certain personality types are more likely than others to voluntarily participate in polls of this sort;
2) Certain personality types are more likely than others to voluntarily participate in online communities such as POA; and
3) INTJs enjoy pigeonholing people :D

Don't get too wrapped up in the usual definition of "introverted"...in context of this test it means something other than the casual use of the word:

http://www.e-mbti.com/
The first one was (E)xtroversion vs. (I)ntroversion. This stands how people prefer to focus their attention(interest) and get/spend energy. In the extraverted attitude the energy flow is outward, and the preferred focus is on people and things, whereas in the introverted attitude the energy flow is inward, and the preferred focus is on inner thoughts and ideas.

Another ENTJ here (described as "Fieldmarshal")... lol.. you folks had better get to work! :D

 That's about how I figured you'd turn out. :D

I particularly liked this part:

TRADEMARK: -- "I'm really sorry you have to die." (I realize this is an overstatement. However, most Fs and other gentle souls usually chuckle knowingly at this description.)

:D

I just noticed that some of the categories in the poll are messed up. There should only be the possibility of two letters in each position. Some have 3.

I was looking to see if the "pilot personality" was possibly defined by one or two of the traits instead of the whole package.

I over E by 46 to 22; N over S 44 to 24; T over F 63 to 5; J over P 56 to 12

You are correct, I fat thumbed a couple.

In addition to good intellectual/logical operations, piloting requires a strong, constant internal process to keep the shiny side up. It's not surprising we use internalized words like "scan" and "flow" to describe a lot of what pilots do.

It told me to remain seated until the police arrive.

Seriously, though: ENTJ - 22/50/38/33

I am:
slightly expressed extravert
moderately expressed intuitive personality
moderately expressed thinking personality
moderately expressed judging personality

What's really interesting is the Career indicator. Pretty much right on the mark for Technical Sciences and Social Services - I've been heavily involved in the topics in both categories...but I have little interest in management.

I keep analyzing. The following information is from Wikipedia

The Sixteen Types U.S. Population Breakdown The table organizing the sixteen types was created by Isabel Myers (an INFP). ISTJ
11.6% ISFJ
13.8% INFJ
1.5% INTJ
2.1% ISTP
5.4% ISFP
8.8% INFP
4.3% INTP
3.3% ESTP
4.3% ESFP
8.5% ENFP
8.1% ENTP
3.2% ESTJ
8.7% ESFJ
12.3% ENFJ
2.4% ENTJ
1.8%
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-Briggs_Type_Indicator

Compare the most prominent types in the pilot poll to percentages of the overall US population.

I keep analyzing. The following information is from Wikipedia
Type_ U.S. PoA

ISTJ_11.6% 15.2%
ISFJ_13.8% 2.5%
INFJ __1.5% 6.3%
INTJ __2.1% 35.4%
ISTP 5.4% 3.8%
ISFP 8.8% 0%
INFP 4.3% 1.3%
INTP 3.3% 5.1%
ESTP 4.3% 0%
ESFP 8.5% 0%
ENFP 8.1% 0%
ENTP 3.2% 6.3%
ESTJ 8.7% 13.9%
ESFJ 12.3% 2.5%
ENFJ 2.4% 0%
ENTJ 1.8% 13.9%

Looks to me that in PoA the biggest departures from "normal" are the lack of ISFJs, ESFJs, ISFPs, ENFPs, and ESFPs plus an unusually high bias towards INTJs, ENTJs, and to a lesser extent ESTJs.
