Okay guys consider for a moment you are not a pilot for one moment and think this over. You are looking for your own personal pilot to fly you around the world in your own personal jet. Of the following options which would you choose?

1. Vietnam War veteran pilot
- Older gentlemen but has a ton of experience
- Medically sound
- Has been through all kinds of adverse flying
- Flew Super Sabre's and Thunderchiefs

2. Twenty five year old wonderboy
- Rich family put him through training
- Wears cool sunglasses
- Wants to be a top gun and imagines he's maverick
- Very capable

3. Henning

If all I want is a pilot... 1

If I want someone who knows where to go and what to see around the world, probably Henning.
 
Not 1 - my father in law was in Korea and he's over 80 now. Vietnam pilot maybe...

Maybe #2 - you obviously don't like this sterotype, but I know a lot of great 25 year old pilots. My wife's cousin is 25, cfii, glider, seaplane, tailwheel and a test pilot. He also does aerobatics. His family is rich and put him through training and he wears cool sunglasses. But he got over the maverick thing a long time ago.

Who's Henning? ;)
 
If there are zero votes for wonderboy, at 0% even, why does the bar graph show up at all for him? Shouldn't it not exist?

My mistake on that one. I had my time periods mixed up indeed. Let's say Vietnam War era vet.
 
I still pick Henning for the bribes aspect alone. I've heard when you fly around the world one of the biggest hurdles is the people / bribes / paperwork. I think he'd make more friends than an ex-military guy who was trained to kill people and not trust anyone.
 
No female choices? Maybe I'd pick Everskyward over some aging war dude that's about to keel over or some steamboat captain that would probably sell my organs for a profit and dump my body into the Pacific.
 
Henning, only if the jet has synthetic vision though - because if henning aint happy, aint nobody happy

I know a lot of military types, and from my conversations with Henning via telephone I'm pretty sure I'd be able to tolerate him better than a military person. This is not a nice thing to say but at work right now I'm dealing with a tenant who spent 30 years in the military and words cannot explain what I'm going through with him. We are unable to communicate well and frankly when I put my foot down to show who's who he just got so mean with me and controlling even.... hello - I'm representing the Lessor not the Tenant!!!

I've never been too rigid and though I follow rules, I'm more outside the box kind of person. Henning is too. Think about what you are asking: who would I want to fly me around aka who would I want to spend a hell of a lot of time with. Sure you could leave the pilot alone and sit in the back with your friends but you would still have to get along with the pilot.
 
If I have that sort o jack....

I'd pick #2 and supplement with an experienced temp hire for certain situations.

Like any other subset of the population, ex-mil folks vary from great to insufferable.

Besides, this is a fantasy scenario. Any personal jet that I'd even remotely consider owning requires a two-pilot crew, so I could have the square-jawed greybeard, and the young guy with cat-like reflexes. Plus, Henning as concierge and cultural attache.

I don't hate military types, I just wouldn't choose them over others - my personality and theirs tend to clash more often than not. That has been my own experience. My Dad was in the Air Force and heck I have USAA (the best insurance there is). So I love the military. In fact, I took the entry exam myself to get into the Air Force since when I was younger I wanted to train dogs for a living but there was no money in that. Later I found out that to train dogs in the Air Force I'd have to be MP. I didn't like guns at the time.... so I never joined. They would call me a lot after that to ask me to join however!

I wasn't saying or trying to infer that you hate military types. Just pointing out that they run the gamut of personalities like everyone else. I'm sure there are people out there that don't like any kind of pilot, either.

And had you listened to the recruiter, you probably would have learned that what recruiters promise and where you end up after you enlist can be very different things.

Yes, that and I wasn't sure I could make it through all the yelling at boot camp. I went to the Air Force recruiter because I'd heard their boot camp was easier to make it through. Had nothing to do with aviation, at the time.

And I heard that USCG was the way to go because they had free swimming lessons. :goofy:
 
I happen to have experience in flying somebody else's jet around the world on numerous occasions. None of the crew members fit the criteria you posted.

Lol, since I fly with myself all the time, I chose the Korean War vet. I used to fly with several QB WWII vets when I first started and always enjoyed it and learned a lot.

The best reference I ever got was, "If I was going to the Moon, I'd take Henning, first I know I'm gonna get home and second I know it's gonna be a fun trip.":rofl:
 
Without a doubt I would pick Henning. I am tired of my wife being the best pilot and smartest person in the airplane.
 
For multiple reasons, I'm torn on the choices.

My only experience flying with #1 (Vietam era) the pilot had a somewhat cavalier attitude (and a little halitosis too). So I'm biased here.
#2- I'd like to think I'm not prejudice against his age, but there are some mature 25 year olds (I was one of them). But then again a lot of 25 year olds are more interested in where they're going than what they're doing right now.
#3 Henning - It's tough for me to imagine myelf NOT a pilot (I picked up knowledge and skills from training but didn't need to do much in the way of mindset) and eventually we'd disagree on something and it would come down to a RHIP (rank has its priviliges) moment - we are a lot alike in some of the ways that clash. Otherwise, I think 99% of the time would be all good.
