Performance does thou sucketh this a.m.

I'm afraid that with the type of server system we've moved to, occasional periods of slow performance won't be avoidable.

However, it's still, IMO, far superior to the long freezes we were getting, and for the price, tough to beat...
 
Seems to be working fine to me on this side of the pond!
 
All - I'm afraid that media temple's grid service isn't quite as lightning fast as promised during USA peak hours. I'm going to have to find out whether we need to get a dedicated mysql instance to address the slowdowns, or what else we can do to deal with these increasing drags on our top speed.
 
Re the notice on the main page asking folks to hammer this site with long rambly posts - is this real? in case its not I will keep this shortish!
 
Size of the post probably doesn't matter much. I think the behind-the-scenes services are just overworked in general, and not just with our traffic.
