Many of you, if on my mailing list, received from me a series of B & W photos which were found(not by me) to have been taken by a Brownie camera which was found in an old locker. The photos were astonishing shots of Pearl Harbor, December 1941. Comments have been flying back re them. One response came from a long time customer of mine who lives just around the corner from my old camera store. His comments are most interesting, and I'm posting them here. If anyone who didn't receive the photos would like to have them please e-mail me on-the-side and I'll forward same to you.

"Wow!!
What a find. Thanks very much for sharing them. I well remember the day. My father worked for United Airlines and was the company expert on air freight who was working jointly with the U.S. Post Office developing "Air Mail".

He received a phone call at home soon after we had finished Sunday Dinner. It was White House operator who authorized him to rush any tannic acid ointment that he could locate. The ointment was used for burn treatments and was manufactured in Illinois where we lived at the time. He had Presidential authority to order the material, to stop any commercial airplane, displace passengers, etc and get the medicine delivered to San Francisco. We already had heard about Pearl Harbor on the radio. He spent the next 24 hours, non-stop, locating the medicine, matching it with westbound commercial airliners, and expediting delivery to San Fran.. where commercial airliners were dispatched to Pearl. And all of these transactions took place with out any paperwork. An incredible response by many unsung heroes who took extreme steps to save lives. And the longest range airplanes were DC3's, never designed for such long flights, piloted by United Airlines and American Airlines pilots who had never flown long distance over the ocean.
Thanks and Regards

Jerry, Can you tell me where the photos might be?
I'm reading "At Dawn We Slept" the definitive story on December 7. It would be interesting to see pictures that have not been in books before.
Thanks,
KL

A USN Admiral(Ret) who lives locally and who was a customer of mine -- he had served at NAS Brunswick and retired here -- sent them to me. I don't know where he sourced them. The photos look similar to other oft-published images of the terrible day. However, the circumstance of having been found in an old foot-locker(and taken by a Brownie camera) give them a separation of their own. I'll not post them here in respect to any legal protection they might have attached; however, if you didn't receive them - I'm not certain if you're on my Address List -- e-mail me on-the-side and I'll forward them to you.

Another thought: it's fortunate the film was B & W; had it been color the images would certainly have been faded/lost.

Chip:
They came to me as insert(s)/attachment(s) from a regular correspondent; hence, there's no Link, as such. E-mail me and I'll forward them to you.

Note: I suspect that if anyone e-mails me via PoA I'd not be able to forward the images. If doing so, please include your specific e-mail address so that I can do a simple FORWARD of the e-mail I received.
