In every article I've read on the crash, they claim the wreckage was spread over 300 yards. Does that sound like an excessively long distance to anyone else?

Not necessarily. That's 900 feet, or about the distance of a landing roll in that plane. It means they didn't fall out of the sky - IE, likely not a stall/spin - And that they had a significant horizontal component of their motion when they hit the ground, and likely not a very high vertical component. If the plane cartwheeled, I can see parts being spread across a 300-yard distance pretty easily.

Apparently the aircraft was under power, ruling out fuel starvation. I can't confirm that, just something I overheard.
