PA-28 Fuel Pressure Drop

A PA-28-180 pilot commented yesterday that when he climbed from 3000 ’ to 6000 ’, his fuel pressure dropped from 6psi to 3psi. If he turned on the electric boost pump, the pressure returned to 6psi. He also verified the pressure drop on another fuel pressure instrument . I do not think the pilot had ever taken his plane to this altitude before....new private pilot and new to this aircraft. Any suggestions ?

The indicated value (3) is 5x the redline value of .5. What is the value on a full power static runup?

If it's in the green, more than .5 psi, you're ok in a PA-28. Mine routinely shows 2-3 psi. Turning on the fuel pump raised the psi to 4-5. Your friends plane is fine. I had my PA-28-180 at 12,500' last week and my fuel pressure was fine.

Mine drops as I climb too. At 12,000 its like 2 psi.

mine doesnt drop that much. at 9k it will be at 5 or so, with the electric boost pump it will be may be a 6
