Never been a cult follower of the "Big O" unless we are not talking about Oprah (), but you have to giver her credit where credit is due. After 25 years on TV she is calling it quits in 18 months and ending her TV run.

Oprah is an amazing person, and she certainly has risen to the top of her field. She effects life in this country with a simple mention of a product or fad. Pretty amazing accomplishment if you ask me. I can only hope she stays in the public spotlight after the TV show ends.

Love her or hate her, "O" has had an effect on us all.

Actually she's starting her own the network not suprisingly called the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

I'll admit that she is an amazing person but I never did like her show...

I worked (very minor role unfortunately) for Harpo, her production company, on Wednesday of last week on Fort Bragg.

Great team...

She seems to avoid mentioning her Mississippi heritage in public.

What has she accomplished? Even when I had a TV it was not my type of show. (wasn't it daytime TV anyway? I though most working folks didn't catch daytime TV)
Anyway, not meaning to sound cynical at all with the first question, just haven't heard of her achievements. Maybe a link I can read?

I hear she's made a TON of money. Thats an accomplishment.

She's definitely a success, but I haven't even heard of her show in recent years unless it was something big, like the car giveaway or the guy who wrote a fictional memoir. I'd say she's making the right choice at the right time.

Pretty pathetic, actually. A whole group of people that can't think for themselves. "WWOD"?

One of my co-workers is a member of the Oprah Sheeple flock. "Well, Oprah says this and Dr Phil says that........" :yikes:

The magic box tells them everything they need to know. What's worse is the ones who rely on the intertubes to be 100% truthful. :D

Gotta give her that!
I am presuming she has helped others around her in her life as well? (personally I don't give huge credit for 'entertainment')

I was hoping she had a show where the audience was all pilots and she gave away a new airplane to everyone, including me.

Never followed her much, though her studio was built next to the office where I worked. But as for giving back, I'm aware of her school in South Africa: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oprah_Winfrey_Leadership_Academy_for_Girls

And she's apparently one of the top philanthropists:

Meh....

She's switching it to her own network so instead o getting it free, women will have to pay for it. Like she needs the money, but hey, its capitalism, more power to her!

Come on, now. Someone pays to get the Oprah network and doesn't get the Oprah show? That isn't going to fly. Of course she has to put the show on the network.

That's what I'm saying. If they don't pay for the Oprah Network they won't get the show. So instead of being on the "free" networks (yeah I know nothing is free) she's on pay cable.

Yeah. And, IMHO, that's not unreasonable. She can hardly take over the entire broadcast network to show the content she's interested in showing, so she starts a new network. And, given that she's started a new network, she can hardly not put her own show on it. I guess I was reading your comment as being derisive, whereas I thought it was just logical business sense. Rereading your comment, we may be on the same page!

Chick show never watched it. More power to her though, success is to be admired.

Just watched her "annual heroes" show, because Tivo picked up the word "pilot" in the description. She had a pretty good tribute to Sully and the first responders on the "miracle on the Hudson." (Yes, she used that tag line.) :( Sullenberger made a point to mention Jeff Skiles a couple of times.
