I still have my OGC memorabilia from the time I flew in this a few years back. It's a worthwhile cause and a lot of fun to do. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

Took me a bit to dig this up...
This was last year, in the Cessna 150...this year, I'll use my Cherokee with the back seats out:

Unfortunately I'm about 550nm away, but I'd love to help with this if I was up that way. Good luck on your run this year!

See, I didn't even realize that he is wearing a pink headset until it was pointed out...

I just signed up as a volunteer pilot, albeit with some hesitation.
I already tried two years ago, but was less than impressed with the communication and the scheduling of the pilots.

I hope that they have worked on this...

I've had the same issue over the years...I signed up months in advance and never got a call with time. Tried to call around and no one knew what was going on .

Exactly my experience, I just didn't want to lay this out here so detailed. ;)
On Friday, I finally managed to reached somebody who was involved in the scheduling of the pilots and he was pretty much like "yeah, well, if you really want to come, just stop by anytime, we might even have something to fly for you". I didn't feel needed at all, overall a very frustrating experience. Back then I even had to rent a plane for $$$...

Well, I want to be optimistic and believe that things have improved.... :)

I only have last year to report on, so here it goes:
I signed up late, as I only found out about the event about 10 days before it was scheduled. I was called by event personnel on Wednesday before the Saturday event, and given a time to arrive of 10 a.m., but no route info, which they said was assigned once I arrived the day of the event. On Saturday, I could not make my 10 a.m. time (nor could anyone else) because the entire area was socked in with fog. The fog cleared by 11:30, and I flew to PTK, arriving by about 11:50. Unfortunately, EVERYONE arrived between 11:30 and 12:30, so it got very busy, and the dispatch room was PACKED with pilots (which was what I expected, considering the weather). The good news is they got the jam sorted quickly, and I was given an assignment with only about an hour and 30 minute wait...and I was one of the last from the jam to go because of poor weather around the state, and me using just a Cessna 150. So, overall, I think it was well handled considering the circumstances.

Oh no.

I just realized I pulled a social justice warrior... I just assumed someone's gender. This is how it starts. Soon I'll start changing my gender fluid and checking people's privilege!

I need an intervention! Send help!

(Sorry thread hijack)

Wow.

Organization is much better this year - Jerry called today, thanked me for volunteering and asked us to touch down at 11:12(!!!) on Saturday.
He told me that he has scheduled a plane every two minutes!

Very friendly guy as well.

Yes, it was a model of efficiency this year. I was given my landing time by phone on Wednesday. I landed at my assigned landing time of 11:50 a.m., and I already had my destination assignment by noon. We were loaded up and airborne a short time later.

(And this year, I remembered to bring the kid's correct headset!)

Very nice picture, looks like you had a great time. :)

Obviously, you were braver than we were - we didn't feel comfortable about the ceilings of only 1,500 to 2,500 ft., icing above and snow on the west of the state, so that we decided to stay at home.

Yeah, the weather gave me some pause, but it was predicted to slowly improve, and in addition, the flights were around my home area, so I could always land and call someone for a ride if it got worse. On a somewhat similar note, I experienced (VERY) light icing for the first time: I noticed, while flying through an almost-imperceptible brief drizzle, that my normally red gas tank caps were turning white around the edges.
