Looking for pirep on the open airplane rental operation,thinking of visiting many states,probably be cheaper to rent in different states rather than fly the trip in my aircraft . Thanks

Could be.

I don't see too many basic trainers for rent on OA. Lots of premium airplanes priced prohibitively high. Enough that it's cost effective for me to find a 172N on the line elsewhere and take an hour checkout.

Not a damn thing in AR. I'd love to have access to a Bo or Six.

Wow, really? Where are you seeing those? All I have seen are decent to ragged out basic trainers ... that are priced prohibitively high. I hadn't seen anything out there terribly interesting.

Agreed, I see nothing but 172s and Warriors with the occasional DA40 and M20J

Rent a plane? Sure, but you'll need a one hour check ride, and minimum of 3 hr rental.

And the CFI for the checkride isn't here today, so you'll need to come back tomorrow.

It would be a shame if poor pricing limited the success of the OA model. Its kind of like LSAs. The trope used to be that planes were so expensive to rent because a new 172 cost $500k. Then came $150k LSAs, burning 50% less fuel per hour, which hit the line at the same cost of a recent vintage 172. "Well, they're new, you know..."

Imagine how many (few) copies of MS Windows would have been sold if it was marketed along the lines of "We've got rich corporations who will pay six figures for this software" instead of "Let's price this so every PC user in the world will have it." 50 users x $10^6 <<< 10^9 users * $50

This is the Exact model that OA was attempting to overturn:

You do an annual PTS-practical locally with OA and you merely put your name & time in for the same make/model at your travel site and just go in and pick up the key and go. The rental FBO needs to sign an agreement with OA that they agree to this arrangement to be part of their franchise.

The whole thing probably isn't worth the bother unless you travel a LOT and want to rent at those locations --- a LOT.
Otherwise, the hassle isn't worth it. And even then, the cost is ridiculous.
{{ and OA gets huffy with those that criticize their model }}
