Great photo. Thanks for sharing it. I can't look at photos like that without wondering about the context -- where are they; what was the mission; etc. They were indeed the Greatest Generation.

It also occurs to me if that airplane were on the market today, a proper pre-buy should include a thorough inspection for corrosion ... :wink2:
 
Neat picture.

That was a risky operation. I've seen video where the plane hooked a wave, snapped the cable, and the whole shebang (rigger included) went ass over teakettle often with injuries sometimes resulting in death. This snap shot represents what men did in time of war.

I'd be more concerned of bent metal and smoking rivets than corrosion.

My collection (of my dad's photos - he was an officer on the Mighty Mo during & after WWII). The picture was undated, but would have to be either 1945 or 1946.

I believe it's a Curtis.
