Hi guys,

I am very excited to say today, that after months and months of dreaming/searching for a plane, that I finally put a deposit of a 1968 Cherokee 180D.

This is my first plane. I am a student pilot and due to being super busy at work, I have had to put flying on hold for a while. Now being in the position to owning my own plane, I started searching for something to meet my mission and I came across this Cherokee.

Any input on the 180D series? Any tips I should know about purchasing? Already has gone through a pre-buy inspection, fyi.

Congratulations!! Any pics of the girl?

Congrats the 180 is a great starter airplane. Enjoy.

Great plane. The 180 can actually be used as a four place aircraft instead of the 140 which is a two place aircraft with four seats.

It should serve you well.

I am about to close on my first plane too! a 66 180 C ! I am just days away and my stomach is in knots!! <<<--- :goofy:

Pony up the cash to install shoulder restraints if it doesn't have them. Otherwise, it's a fine airplane.

What is the cost on the shoulder restraints installed ? My Insurance didn't even ask about them.. (I was able to get a very nice policy though!)

Make sure the pre-buy is done by a person you select and not the seller. I have been looking at Cherokee 180's myself and think it is a great family plane!

Congrats! Just bought my first airplane too... the 180D is a nice first airplane--good choice!

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys. So pre buy is complete, I'm just getting all the aircraft info to the broker slowly but surely. Pics to follow for sure!

Congrats on the new plane!

However, Im a little curious. Ive recently seen a spate of student pilots purchasing planes. This seems backwards to me. As an almost-licensed pilot (checkride Thursday!), I wouldn't think of buying a plane until I actually have a license.

I definitely *want* to buy at some point, but my thought was to rent for a year and see what kind of flying I am doing so I get the right plane.

Good point but the 180 is a great plane. A lot of people fly them forever. Even if the OP decides on a bigger/faster plane, the 180 should serve him well until then.

Congrats you will love it! I just bought a 68 cherokee 180d back in October. And yep I have had 4 adults in it. Useful load is real good and it still wants to climb like mad. The controls feel heavier than a cessna but that's about it. Stalls are a non event, just remember to switch tanks. Your gonna love it! pictures?? I haven't put shoulder harnesses in mine yet. I plan on it at some point . Annual is next week so will see how that goes.

It has been almost a year since I purchased my 180D and it is a great first plane.
