A neighbor asked me to take his dad for a helicopter ride, so we went this morning. What I didn't know is that his 89 y.o. dad recently started work on his PP-ASEL (18 hrs). He thinks he may be the oldest student pilot in the country, and he might be right. He lives in Florida and is flying a 172.
This was an especially fun flight. The guy is rabidly interested in aviation, and really seemed to have a good time. We flew for an hour, sightseeing mostly over Chester County, Pa. I don't think I've ever taken a passenger who was more enthusiastic both during and after the flight (when he bought me lunch -- I do fly for food...). It's nice to see somebody get all fired up like that.
And who knows? Maybe he can be turned from the dark side to vertical flight
