IMG_8262.jpegIMG_8263.jpegHi, All:

I have a Vans RV-7A (completed 2010) with a Lycoming O-360 engine. My engine has a permanent oil filter housing as shown in the attached images, and uses Champion CFO-100-1 filter cartridges. Unfortunately Champion discontinued these cartridges and I can’t find any alternatives other than modifying to put in an adapter that will allow the use of spin on filters. Any advice/experience that you could share? It looks like the adapter might be Lycoming LW-13743 (although I’m not completely confident in that).

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Cheers,

Matt, welcome to POA

Is this a Dual Mag engine?

I'm not an expert, but that looks suspiciously like the oil filter adapter on my IO 540, which uses an LW-13904 converter plate and 48103-2 filters.

There's a service bulletin on the gasket for this:
Might look and see if your dash number is on that list; that would sort of confirm it's the right part.
The current superseding part number is 54E23073
The converter plates are on ebay, the gasket is $60 from airpower. There's a special goop for the gasket called out in the SB above.

CFO-100-1 was the Champion filter cartridge number.
If your current filter system was Lycoming installed it will have a LW or similar factory part number regardless of who made it. With that Lycoming number you might be able to find an alternate filter. But usually in these cases my 1st move would be to contact Lycoming support and inquire with them on any potential alternates as there could be a bulletin issued to cover this.

Thank you all for the helpful advice. I heard back from Lycoming tech support, and they indicate it is 54E23073 as Jim K noted above. Looking on eBay for 'good used'. Thanks much!
