Meet the Fokkers
So I woke up the other day, and a strange thought popped in my mind.

The U.S. Government has declared that we need to expand the alphabet and will be adding a new letter.
The wheel of fortune was spun and you were chosen to:

1. Design the letter. What does it look like?
2. Name it. What is it called?
3. Give it a pronunciation. What does it sound like?
4. Assign it's classification. Do we need another vowel or consonant?

The French thought the same thing when they developed the Roman character alphabet for the Vietnamese language.
 
Actually I’ve noticed (particularly on NPR) that the letter H appears to be disappearing - much to my chagrin.
I hate hearing “uman being”, etc.

I think Mexicans re-appropriated it because someone stole their J (as in "Julio").

Everything starts with #3 on your list, which will answer #4.

Or is the guvmint just yanking our collective chain by "creating" a new letter, then deciding how to use it?

Can we bring back some discarded letters, which I can't type on my tablet (no "alt" button, and no "Insert Symbol" function). Look up Thorn, Yogh and Aleph, which look something like this.

Yeah, there's a list of 12 letters that 'never made the alphabet'.
I wondered about other's original ideas.

Also thought about a new number.....but man, that's a mind blower, and would pretty much ruin the entire math system if we tried to inject one anywhere between negative infinity and positive infinity ;)
 
1. It looks like a backward capital B
2 It's called a "oool"
3. It sounds like it's called
4. It's a vowel and it replaces all the letters that make that sound "ool" "ul" and "ou'll" ...

It has no capital version as it can't start a word or sentence. It can't be written in cursive. Now I have to go back and ask for a Government grant to conduct a study and hire a team of researchers and travel to exotic parts of the world and maybe get a second grant to actually complete the work and ....

I've asked people why 360 is the number of degrees in a circle. What if it was 720? They go nuts! It's even worse if I pick a number that is NOT a multiple or divisor of 360, like 400.

"Don't you know math!?!"

I say, "whoever came up with 360 didn't 'know' math, they invented it."

I get treated like a Flat Earther in these conversations. But at least I'm not serious.
 
I thought there was already a new letter. ''Arra''. I heard that a lot when I was growing up.

For example someone might say... ''I'm gonna to drink this arra C cola.''

Except for some parts of the country where the letter R is not used in words with an R in it. For example, ''Let's get in the caa, and go to the baa for a beea.''

No wonder people are learning Spanish....

Those parts of the country still use the letter R. They take it off the chai and put it on the sofer. :p

But a circle has already been divided into 400 equal measurements called gradians. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gradian

First time I heard that pronunciation was by Carl Sagan on the original Cosmos. "The yumans..." in that Cosmic Bullwinkle voice of his. I suspect it goes a lot further back than that, probably something regional. Sounds strange to these ears though...
 
Is the word tortilla adopted into English yet?

The "double L" consonant in Spanish would be a likely one to adopted. Or we can spell it tortiya.
