I have not been in the office all week. For the past several years I stopped driving in any kind of snow to go to work. I can just as easily work form home as from my office so why bother. We even have a few people who are now permanent work from home people.

BTW looks like you got more snow than us. We actually got some of the rain last night and it melted a lot of the snow. I had maybe 3" of heavy wet snow to clear this morning. Temp is 33F and there is still some melting. Temp is supposed to drop throughout the day.

I'm in Dallas on business but my wife says we've got 9 inches on the ground in St.Charles, IL.

Y'all kicked Santa Fe/Albuquerque's butt in the snow contest. LOL.

12" here and still snowing. I'd like to shake the man's hand who invented the snowblower....

Ha - got far more than we did, too. If you believed the forecasts, we were supposed to get 20"+ (and that was using the forecast minimums). We got .5-1".

Being a meteorologist is great, though. You can get it completely wrong, but people will still listen to you! :)

Ground blizzard here in central Iowa. Vis about quarter mile, 9 degrees F, gusting 40.

"Firefighters in Boise, Idaho, rescued a boy Tuesday whose tongue was stuck to a metal fence pole. A woman driving by saw the boy standing next to the fence, figured out what was happening and called 911. Firefighters dumped a glass of warm water on the pole and freed him. The boy, who was about 10, bled a little, but was OK and firefighters let him continue his walk to school. "

I went out around 9:30 last night and shoveled the 11.5" that we had on the ground at that point. When I went out this morning there was absolutely no indication that I had done anything at all last night. Very disheartening...

I just took Rachel to work - apparently the ACE Hardware in Boone is more 'necessary' than city/county government offices. *sigh* Roads were mostly clear, but the visibility was almost negative at some points. The drifted snow banks were interesting every once in a while, but the Jeep just plowed right through.

It was fun throwing 4 rooster tails of snow while trying to get back in the driveway, though. :D

I got high-centered trying to get my Jeep out of the driveway and it took a couple of attempts to break thru, but I got the job done. Tell Dirk Scholten I said 'hi' and that the Chief is safe and warm.

Meteorologists and attorneys. :yikes::D:rofl:;)

No snow here, just screaming winds, 22G36 last I checked. The really impressive thing is how low the barometer is. The altimeter setting here is 28.97 (yesterday afternoon when I flew our lowest altimeter setting was 30.20), and not far away it's even lower:

KCAD 091836Z AUTO 32005KT 3/4SM -SN OVC007 00/00 A2875 RMK AO2

I think that's about the lowest I've ever seen it in Michigan.

I, meanwhile, have been reminded that I need new tires on the Ford. And chains. My old Cherokee was excellent at getting through the snow no matter what. The 2" lift and big tires did help. :)

An Ace is probably more necessary than a government office with lots of snow out. Where are the guys with the snow plows (or other winter implements) going to go for any parts? Or the people who need to buy new ones? Still, sucks when you have to get into work for such things.

It may not be pretty but it throws a lot of snow; and it's over 30 years old. We have about 6" or 7"(December 05 storm and one at present which is about ready to change to rain), but I haven't fired-up Mr. Gravely except to know that he started quickly.

When I checked weather this morning, it was -8F in Denver, -11F at McMurdo, Antarctica.

Even Buffalo, NY is warmer, which is *really* strange.

My 20' boat came out of the water in late October but I hadn't towed it from the boat yard until "they" finished winterizing her and I got a "roundtuit"(December 05). With snow predicted for the night of the 5th I guess my time was running thin.

I figured that my weak-kneed 2-whl. drive Chevy S-10 couldn't haul it up the access road, so I parked it at the bottom of the hill and searched for a neighbor. All the fishermen around here have 4-whl. drive trucks. Success! Now, I knew that the 75 year old former Bay Point Fire Station has about 9" clearance on each side of the trailer wheels; but I thought that about 1½ feet of the bow would stick out of the front of the "station"(which was moved to this property about 30+ years ago). Ah! The neighbor backed her into the station; there's two feet clearance behind the swim platform; the bow is under cover, and only the trailer tongue protrudes. Ten hours later those leaves were under about 4" of white stuff. And it sure beats paying $$ per foot for storage.

And yes; the current snow storm has changed to rain with freezing rain predicted for later.

Sounds like I need to move to McMurdo...it's gonna be almost that bad here tomorrow.

That explains why my car was reluctant to start at 1am after being parked outside for 2 days. There there were the brakes. I don't think they ever really warmed up...

Ugh.

They're calling for -15 or -20 here tonight. Time to go check anti-freeze....

That boy never watched a Christmas Story?

Blizzard warnings here cancelled around 4:00PM. Officially 8" in Lincoln, 12" at my place. 3-4' snow drifts are common, but we are digging out. That was a nasty little fall storm.

Monday my wife and another woman went to St. Louis for a conference with my four wheel drive Dodge pickup truck. She left me here with her turbo charged Pontiac Solstice. We've gotten over a foot of snow in the last two days. I have been living by my wits, mooching rides and riding the bus. The Solstice sits in the garage. The pulled the buses off the streets today, and to top it all off, I am the only one who could make it in to the office today. I walked.
