Ugh what a stormy day. So I went to the store to pick up dinner for tonight. I get home, start unpacking the groceries (making sure to close the trunk before it starts raining) I run upstairs to get my keys to move my car to the "turn around" part of the driveway when it turns "pitch black" out. I had just given my dog a peanut butter & tranq sandwich, when off in the distance I thought I heard a tornado. This sound was something that I have never heard before. Within 10 seconds hail was boucing around all over the place. Golf ball sized hail at that. In the next few minutes the temperature dropped drastically. It was so cold out you could even see your breath. Now I have to get my windshield replaced again. Sigh. Time to hunker down for the next round.

I am in Johnston County (NC) to visit mom, we were bypassed by the most intense wx by a slim margin. Tornado was spotted near Louisburg about 3:45

Hey KD, I just flew from UZA-LZU. Your attached radar shot was taken as I was enroute. Bumpy below 5,000, but pretty smooth at 6,000. I did have a few wx deviations along the way, but overall, it was a good flight, and excellent experience. I was able to keep all those "red cells" to my south!!!

Bummer and I am guessing the car is now undrivable? Will the windshield people come out or do you have to get towed?

Hey Scott...my car is still drivable, and the glass people come out and replace the winshield at my job. This is the 2nd mishap with in 3 weekends for me. No wonder I don't have any money for flying.

Glad you're ok, Brook... getting hit by that size hail is hard on the noggin (especially when you are bald like me).

Glad you're OK Brook. We had a hailstorm like that down here in Texas recently. My banana trees look like feather boas. It pretty well destroyed a lot of landscaping around here - and quite a few car windows (even a couple of home windows), too.

Brook. Have anyone BUT Safelite do your replacement. If they HAVE to do it, MAKE sure they put an OEM windshield in and not that junk aftermarket crap they manufacture.
If you request another shop. Tell them you want Pilkington Glass or OEM Only.

Round tw..... tornados reported in multiple locations wake county lee county (tta) is about to be wolloped!!

I think Safelite did my last windshield about 3 years ago - been happy with it.

And you will be untill the next rock cracks it. Safelite brand (LSI) windshields are half the thickness of standard windshields. What does that mean? First, that rock that shouldve just bounced off your window will now crack it for sure. Second, Because they are so thin, most new cars have flush monted windows, and your new thinner window wont fit correctly with your mouldings. I could go on and on. I have no beef with safelite other than they produce a crappy product. For the most part their installers are some of the best in the industry. the biggest issue is safety, I dont believe their product is safe. period. I would not want to get in an accident behind their glass. the windshield is the structure of the front end of the car. the structural integrity has been comprimised.
