Healdsburg - KHES

Monterey - KMRY - although weather may be a challenge.

Is Harris Ranch too far for most? I hear its cool...never been there.

KHES can be fun and very scenic (if you haven't been there) especially now that all the vineyards are growing like weeds. But there's not really much that's accessible by foot from KHES. A few wineries nearby but that's of little use to pilots flying out same day. Wind can be a little tricky there as it's near mouth of the Dry Creek Valley.

Didn't Kim suggest PRB?

My personal fave (so far) is O24, but I don't think that's an option for everyone.

I hear there is a good restaurant at KMPI.

2O3 is kinda nice, and not very far, but I think a picnic may be necessary. I haven't been to KUKI yet, but I've overflown it and it looks a bit too urban for my taste. What about D83?

When is this taking place?

D83 is awesome, no taxi way. You've gotta pull a 180 and taxi back up the runway if landing in from the south (runway numbers escaping me at the moment). KUKI is a really fun approach, maybe not the most scenic place to fly to (unless you cruise around near the lake for a bit), but there are good food options within a block or two of the airport. It's pretty quiet there usually. Last time I flew in and chained down this girl maybe 20 or so years old came practically running out of the office asking if I needed anything, she looked disappointed when I said "Nah I'm good, tanks are almost full".

O24 and 2O3 also have no taxiways. Not a big deal unless someone isn't paying attention. Frankly, I find 0Q9 scarier. It has a taxiway, but it's really narrow, and there are aircraft tied down on the grass alongside.

"Taxi at walking speed" is a bit excessive at such airports....taxi slow enough that you can roll to a stop without overrunning, with no brakes and a cut engine. Which, 1000 feet from the threshold, is going to be a lot faster than walking speed.

Lee Vining (O24) isn't going to work for many people for an afternoon Summer departure.

Angwin (203) is nice to fly in to but there is like nothing there except for the college and the funny farms, neither of which are real close. Boonville (D83) is pretty cool - everything is within walking distance and it's far enough inland that the marine layer isn't normally a problem.

I love Boonville.

Yeah, DA can get up to 10,000 or even higher at O24 in the summer afternoon. And then you have to cross a pass 3000 feet higher. But it does have the world's greatest gas station deli (the Whoa Nellie Deli, and no, I'm not kidding!), right across US-395 from the airport. And the owner is a really nice guy and 182 pilot (but he keeps his plane in Bishop).

Angwin has a bunch of hiking trails around it, and a (small) astronomical observatory next to the airport. There is a tiny defunct observatory dome right in the middle of the ramp.

Hi all. I fly out of LVK and HWD. I hope to make this gathering and meet some of the local pilots.

Had a very attractive flying date at Boonville once.....and she bought me lunch :)

Welcome!

I have landed Angwin and don't care to do it again in the near future. I'll cast another vote for Booneville. I have never been there and it sounds interesting.

Let's do Boonville. Land of many attractive dates.

And, to give those that swing in another direction, Guerneville is close by. Land of other attractive dates. Dates anyway I guess.

Anyway, someone with better PC skills than me rephrase that. To be clear, I'm no hater, all is welcome.

This wouldn't really be a fly-in, but San Carlos airport is having their annual Airport Day on June 22nd, and the airport won't be closed. I'll be flying in. They do have a restaurant right there at the transient parking. Anyone up for that before a real fly-in?

I have a plane from 12-5 that day...I'd be willing to make a stop at SQL.

I barely fit in that plane (seen here in the parking area of Boonville):

You can see the runway here in the middle.

There is a bit of terrain around Boonville, but nothing too bad.

That's a really, really short flight for me.

Report over the cement plant.
 I flew there last weekend for an informal chili cook-off at another SQL-based flying club. I didn't even report over the cement plant, just told him I was off of PAO.

For those who don't know, "report over the cement plant" is the unofficial slogan at SQL. You hear it for just about every initial contact with SQL tower when requesting a landing.

Kim, you've sold me on Booneville. Though it's probably a lot browner this time of year.

Still don't know the date, though. 22-23 June does seem to be possible. First time in a while....

On June 22 I did get invited to a free steak dinner / hangar open house for my friend but I think it is at night.

So if Boonville was in the morning I could do both.

Or we could do June 23.

Did we discuss dates already (sorry)?

OK guys, back to your Shades of Grey...don't let her fool you, she fit just fine and flew quite well. Heck, may have been her first stick....;)

Seriously, you are going to go there? Hey just playing with your stick doesn't count as the real thing; just ask Clinton.

I'm up for anything, so let's all fly, but whoa, that was a bombshell...

or are you kidding?

Wish I was. Assuming I'm calmed down by then I'll pencil it in. Sundays are generally tough days to get away but I might be able to swing it.
