I'm in the early stages of my panel makeover. I want to minimize the stack height to allow space for a tablet mount. One option is a Flightline radio in a round hole vice in the stack.

I will have a Comm/Nav that is certified but would like a second radio and was wondering if a non-TSO radio is allowed to be installed in a certified planes panel.

Field approval should be pretty easy.

If you do install one of those let me know what you think of it. I'd really like to dump pretty much everything nav & com wise in the Cardinal...

That doesn't address the old transponder either :goofy:

I have an ICOM A200 in my 150 as the primary and only COM. I was brand spanking new when I bought the plane and didn't know the difference. Turns out, non-TSO. My A&P doesn't seem to care. Also turns out, I really, really like that radio. Intuitive and I like the user-feel (???) of the buttons. Much better than the MK12D in the 172.

Just curious why you didn't post this in Maintenance where the folks qualified to give you an answer hang out?

Short answer is that there is no requirement for TSO or any other FAA approval process for nav or com equipment in part 91 aircraft. FCC approval is required for any transmitter or superheterodyne receiver.
