No new mini-iPad thsi year...

According to CNET due to production problems and as yet no news from Apple. I have been seeing lower prices on the current one so hard to say what is going to happen.

The problem with this rumor is that it came from the exact same people who said the exact same thing about the iPhone 5s.

They were wrong then, and they're almost certainly wrong now. Expect to see new iPads announced later this month and shipping soon thereafter.

I plan to hold out for now. Not flying enough to justify a third iPad. But if the retina mini does come out I will possibly pull the trigger once the lines die down.

Waiting for the new mini, don't have a lot of room in the cockpit. plan on updating apple stuff every couple of years and budget for it.

I heard from a friend of a guy who's brother works at Apple that they will definitely be releasing a new mini....wasn't sure when. :dunno:

If announced Oct. 22, they'll probably be in stores .... early November?

Or even late October - In the past, they've released as early as Friday of the announcement week.

But, you can be sure that they want plenty of inventory in the channel by the time holiday shopping season kicks into high gear. So, I'd expect them to be shipping very soon.

All the mystery - all you need to do is to go to China, and take a look at the factory that makes the boxes - not the Foxconn iPad factory in Shenzen - but the guys who make the boxes - look in their trash. . . .

Locked in my 30 day price on Gazelle for my 1st Gen Mini, we'll see what happens! Most gambling I've done in . . . hours!:D

Well, decision time coming up.
I have Gen 1 iPad with GPS, 64MB. Which means I pay the monthly AT&T acces fee for access when I am away from wifi.

Do I go full iPad again?
iPad mini 2?

64MB or smaller?

Wifi only and get a stratus for gps? I do have a Bad Elf (plug in) but would prefer wireless model.

Tether to cell phone if I really need 4G access?

Presumably, Bad Elf has old style plug... so that's not going to work. I'm only using less than 1/2 of 64gb on my mini... with WingX, Garmin Pilot, Foreflight, SkyCharts pro, FltPlan Go, and a mess of other things installed. Including two MotionX programs that download a lot of off-line mapping data. And ScenicMap, which has a huge internal mapping database.
Even if you have a fancy external GPS for flying, having the internal GPS is invaluable for non-flying times. Many programs utilize the location services.

You are correct on the Bad Elf plug, had not thought of that. Normally I do not need the Bad Elf, only used it on one leg all the way to Alaska and back in the T-41, but last weekend I did need it in the C-182RG. Must be something different in the 182 that blocked reception. I always hate that plug in, afraid I'll bump it and break it or the iPad receiver.

I have FF, DUAT, FlyQ and a lot. Of PDF files in Good Reader, but I too stay under that 50% full level.

Roger on the programs with location services.

If the retina mini comes out I will definitely be purchasing one. After the mini I quickly retired the full size ipad for home use only. It was not long before the mini also replaced the full ipad even at home. For flying, however, I find the mini perfect for my cockpit. It is yoke mounted and ideal for looking at approach plates in FF. My current mini is a 16GB, WIFI version only. This is fine if most of your flying is local, but my Mooney takes me far and I need to load about half the country so I will be upgrading to a 32GB version. I tether mine to my iphone when I need a connection so I really dont need a 4G version, but it might be nice to get that too just for the GPS even if I'll never use the cell connection. I do have a BadEfl bluetooth GPS and it works great as both my iphone and ipad can connect to it simultaneously.

I have the iPad2 Wifi only and use an XGPS 150 and hotspot it to my Android phone when no other wifi is available. I have never had a particular negative issue operating this way, and I only pay one monthly mobile data bill.

On Verizon share plan it's only $10/mo and saves a lot of hassles.

Then I have to use a Verizon phone though and pay considerably more and lose the features T-Mobile gives me that Verizon doesn't allow. It's not much of a hassle to turn on the Mobile Hotspot feature....:dunno:

I have a bad elf. When I got the mini, I bought the adapter from best buy for $29. It makes the bad elf stick out farther, but it works fine. Being a cheapskate, I didn't want to waste the bad elf.
