Not saying it would overcome the ‘startle effect’, but just asking yourself ‘where would I put it?’ if something happened now, may help. While doing so think about the configuration(gear up?) then remind yourself the insurance Co has it now. Often while flying there’s 10-15 kts of surface wind down below, that could be helpful as you glide in, minimize GS.
Of course night or IMC options are different & more limited. I’ve not had to glide in anywhere. The closest I’ve done is nurse a sick engine to a landing.
