Here is what Pete has to deal with this AM

And I know many if you are thinking, “That white stuff? It snow big deal”

But for us in North Texas, this is uncommon. Add to it that earlier this week we were in the 70’s and tomorrow the high temp will be edging 60’s.... If we could just pick a single theme and stick with that

Since you have to hop some mountains and cover some sparsely populated territory, I would suggest the following....
  1. Make up a "ditch bag" that contains items such as: Extra layer of warm clothing, water, food for at least 48 hours, fire starter kit, paracord, a knife, flashlight and extra batteries, loud whistle
  2. Seriously consider getting an ACR ResQLink personal locator beacon. If you ditch away from population, this will get help to you much faster than depending on your ELT and a filed flight plan
Essentially, plan for the worst so if disaster does happen, you have increased your chances of surviving.
Walmart has everthing on the list, only has ACR online. Otherwise, the REI near Plano carries them. Something to consider....F69 is close to your route. Call REI in Plano (972) 985-2241, explain what you’re doing, give them your credit card number and ask someone to bring you the ACR. Join as a member or PM me and I’ll give you my member number and claim you’re my little brother.

Another option...I’ll call the REI, pay for it, have them bring it to you, and you can send a check when you get home.

Third option - order from Walmart online, have it shipped to Midland airport so it'll be waiting for you when you get there.

A fourth option...order thru Amazon, have it shipped to the Midland airport so it'll be waiting for you.

But remember to call the airport and tell them to accept the delivery and hold it for you.

Remember, your online Mom & Dad are watching out for you.

Add a tarp. A fleece blanket doesn't weigh much. Couple bungee cords.

That's what you get for living so far down in the frozen south. Here in Detroit, Rain, Rain, Rain. Coming down in buckets.

It's snowing down here, I saw what looks like ice on my 150 this morning.
So yes, i'll be staying put here FBO another day.

I did get sleeping bag from Walmart.
Saw this on my plane this morning, is this clear ice or rime ice?

I'd humbly suggest a Space Blanket instead of just a "tarp", a huge roll of Al foil and duct tape. Some survivalists suggest a certain amount of cash, and the military always seemed to include condoms. Build to suit your mission. Be safe, and we would all love to hear a recount of this adventure on your way home. I envy you.

Looks like winds are dying down and the sky is clearing up. You should be able to get out soon and fly somewhere else before dark

You're right, it's starting to clear.
I'm gonna bring out the 150 out the hangar and load up to get ready! :)

Wherever you stop next ping us.

Keep posting on this thread until you’re home safely. Lots of resources are here to help you both physically as well as moral support. You’re our folk hero for now.

I really wish I could have made it by to say hello.

I would go West/WNW. Really nothing out there weather-wise right now. Surface winds kick up once you hit the Plainview/Lubbock area...not sure what your limits are

He’s got the sleeping bag. The tarp goes over the wing for to make a shelter.

I get it, but Lubbock is not on the way to El Paso. It’s too far North.
you guys are a lot more familiar with that area, so you can give advice on places to stop. Looks like the weather everywhere west of F00 is trending up

Personally, I'd try for ABI and make a decision on the MAF / ODO area.

Awesome. Flight Following by POA.

Yeah, my goal is not to make a spectacle of his adventure. My goal is to encourage and offer any help he might need in any way we can provide it.

Peter may or may not be regretting the peanut gallery his OP has now created. But it proves we all care for each other if nothing else. LOL.

Did anyone in TX actually go meet him? It might prove we all like to virtue-signal about caring for him, but if no hospitality actually occurred, I think zero marks earned here.

True fact. I know of no other community of people like Aviation. There’s just something different about it, even from the days of fabric airplanes and grass runways I grew up around as a child. I would call it a fraternity except for some very accomplished sisters that we have amongst us.

We all do care about the other because of what they face. And young Peter Ha is the Lone Eagle right now, heading out over the badlands.

I regret that I did not, but it was just my particular situation at the time kept it from happening. I did, however, connect him with a good guy at the field that I think gave him some good support. I really wish I could have gotten by there. I hangared a plane at that field up until about three years ago, but my life situation changed and I moved away.

Okay peter is in the air now showing up somewhere Southwest of Bridgeport. Looks as if he’s good with night flying.

Stay with it Peter! I’m sure he feels good to be airborne again.

looks as if he swung a little North of the Bravo. Not a bad decision.
