New AppleTV

Just got mine Friday. I definitely like the speed, and the interface. It seems like navigating is smooth, and movies load/start very quickly.

The remote is interesting.

The swipe is kind of a pain, and I keep tending to overshoot, but getting better. Even the keyboard is getting easier to navigate as I use it more.

The BlueTooth is nice, but causes an issue for me, as I keep my equipment in a room in the basement. I have an IR repeater mounted below the tv, which works great. Unfortunately the BT range for the remote, ends about where the couch starts. So in order to use the remote, we have to lean forward until the unit picks up the remote, wait for it to sync, and then use it in that position.

Fortunately Apple made it possible to use a universal remote with the Apple TV. While that works very well, it drives me nuts that i paid for a remote I can't use. I was going to see if they make BT repeater/extenders.

I'm pretty sure they do make BT repeaters...

A quick search came up with some, but I also found a few forums that are saying the repeaters won't work with the Siri Remote. The good thing is that there seems to be a number of people thst are already looking for it. Hopefully someone will post a solution. Otherwise I guess I will probably buy one and try it.

I have a couple Samsung SMART TV's purchased in the last 9 months. On them we can watch Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc. just by opening the appropriate app and logging into our accounts on these services. Kind of like a built-in Roku. They've been working great.

Must say... I love your Avatar! I'd like to use the word, "Brusque" to describe it.

The main downside to the "Smart TV" is that it's a very closed system which rarely has the catalog of app services that Roku/ATV have, and they rarely update anything for the firmware/software to make it better. If there's a glitch in the Smart TV apps, it's last on their list of concerns for Samsung/Vizio/etc because it doesn't generate revenue. Otherwise, if you only want the 3-4 basic services they are good for that.
