New AI installed; is this too much wobble on start-up?

My aircraft received a new AI this weekend. It's an RC Allen 22-7. On start-up, it wobbles like crazy for about 20 seconds as it spins up, before stabilising and acting perfectly the entire rest of the time.

I'm used to a little wobble, but this gets so violent I worry about it wearing out the internals. I don't have a huge amount of experience with different AIs though, so maybe it's normal? What do you guys think?

I have never seen that before. That's crazy. I'd like to know what RC has to say. Send them the vid and see.

Wow, in the beginning I thought it looked similar to what I saw in the arrow the other day. But then it kept going and it definitely doesn't seem like it should be normal.
I think in my situation it was aost completely spun down when I started back up and it wobbled a little.

Mine (2 weeks old) does exactly the same thing. Even has the slight right lean after the initial wobble.

Huh, interesting. Does yours also work perfectly all the rest of the time? Has your A&P said anything, or have you had any feedback from the manufacturer?

My A&P says he's never seen that much vibration and suggested I give it a while and see if it "beds in", which is fine by me given that the warranty is a year.

My A&P didn't say a thing about it, it's a few weeks old so haven't worried about it. And yes, it works 100% rest of the time. I'll take a video tomorrow if the smoke subsides...

My RPM went to about 1350; I usually adjust it straight to 1000 on start but I didn't have a spare hand with the camera. 1350 or 1000, though, no difference in behaviour.

Never seen that before. A normal start has the AI dancing as it did in the first 5 seconds of the video and then it calibrates itself. Might want to have a second look at it.

This is mine. It goes straight and level after a moment too but didn't film long enough for that. AI is a few weeks old. (click on the pic to open flickr link, it doesn't embed videos correctly it seems)

Hmm, interesting. Not as violent as mine, but much more of a tilt. Maybe it's just a quirk with this model.

The tilt varies, usually it isn't as much as it was this time but is always to the right. It does correct itself after a moment. Interesting.

Mine did the same thing when it was replaced. It stopped doing it after a couple weeks.
