Touchdown! Greaser!
it's over....you've lost all will power.
you've obviously not learned to tell the pretty gal no.....
you've obviously not learned to tell the pretty gal no.....
Day #1 of my new plan of eating better.
Office cutie brought me coffee and donut to my desk. I didn't have the heart to tell her no, so...
This is going to be harder than I thought. But it's 10:15 a.m. and so far that's all I've had so the day's not lost yet. Maybe a Lean Cuisine frozen meal for lunch.
Tell the cutie you need her help working off the calories.

And with no teeth, it's that much easier to keep the weight off.
A calorie is a unit of measure, they are all exactly one calorie. However, I get what you are saying and its basically correct. The rub is, the net effect difference is so small in practice as to be inconsequential. Your average, slightly overweight, 50 something guy would see a difference measured in ounces over months in terms of weight loss. That just isn't enough to matter in terms of losing a few pounds. Something else to consider is sustainability of diet, no diet works that you cant stay on it. Different people have different likes/dislikes in terms of eating and you have to find the plan that works best for you. The science is the same no matter which eating plan you choose.
Totally false! I've lost 60 lbs on the Atkin's Diet. Your body DOESN'T store protein. I'm living proof of that. Also, your cholesterol DROPS even though you are eating copious quantities of bacon, eggs, red meat, cheese, etc.. My PCP did it & then recommended it to me. It works!!! It does get boring after a while, so I have modified it to the South Beach Diet.
I'm in my 50s, and about 35-40Lb overweight. I want to get down to a more comfy weight and I want to do it before ski season gets going.
I'm not going to go on some obscure Kale only diet. I'm going to lightly modify my intake and try to do it mostly with a regimen of exercise at the gym 3 times per week, and reducing my carbs.
Back when I had knee surgery I was on a training program for rehab, and I stuck with it carefully. I lost 20Lbs in a matter of a month, so that's what I'm aiming at, but honestly - that sounds too aggressive for someone my age and reduced stamina.
Good general health, but I need to get some weight off my knees and ankles for skiing this winter. Again, I don't want to go on some weirdo food regimen.
I retired 7 months ago and just decided to eat less and exercise more. No complicated diat. No focus on carbs or proteins, just less. Has to be something simple that I can maintain. 2 to 3 miles every day walking or time on a stationary bike. I'm down about 15 lbs. so about 2 lbs per month. Also, blood pressure wasn't bad to start with but is improved (120s over 60s with no meds). I'm 75
I don't want to sound simple, but this is where I think I'm headed. Nothing complicated, nothing weird, no supplements, no 'regimen' to follow. Just lower my intake of everything a bit, and get the exercise ramped up a bit. I think I'm going to target about 5-8Lb per month, and just go gradual so I can enjoy a life without suffering. I just want to be in better shape, I don't want to do an Ironman or anything like that.

Youre starting to regret ever asking the question aren't you...?
Why not go see a physician that works with weight loss? I lost 30# in 5 weeks last spring and am 1-2# under that today. No starvation, no procedures, no crazy exercise. There were calorie restrictions, for sure, but I never went hungry. If you want your plane modified you see a specialist. Why is your body any different?
We used to have to real, certificated, live physicians who would share their knowledge for free - Gary and Bruce - but we drove them away because we "knew more than they did". So, we get what we get....
Good thing we are all so darn smart, huh?
If physicians are so knowledgeable about fitness why is the world so fat? I see a lot of overweight docs in all specialties I ain't taking diet advice from someone fatter then me. In a funny/sad related note I have a morbidly overweight relative who is an elementary school gym teacher. don't reckon she has much to teach.
.....and genetics.
I would tell you that it is the US food supply system. The way we package things, the preservatives, the salt, the way we process meat. The way we process flour, sugar, etc...
Go ahead, knock the medical profession. It is the country. We are too smart for our own good in some ways. This is one. Fresh is better.
I can tell you do not personally know any physicians. Unless they specialize in nutrition or something weight related do not count on them to be anymore knowable than Joe America. A certified personal trainer is the best source for this. I know both DO and MD docs as well as a personal trainer and I can say without question his nutritional knowledge is greater.
no, you are wrong.....doctors are all knowing.I can tell you do not personally know any physicians. I have more doctors than you can imagine. You know not of which you are talking.
The most hilarious thing about this, is I just flew a Doctor friend of mine to Tulsa to pick up a new plane yesterday. You have no idea at all of what you are talking about...
no, you are wrong.....doctors are all knowing.
You are kinda making yourself look bad it's pretty obvious you are completely uniformed.
no, you are wrong.....doctors are all knowing.
No way I was at the ER last night stupid ER doc didn't even know what kind of rash I had. I even showed them pictures of what I found on Google and they still tried sending me to a dermatologist LOL. No biggie I saw online you can cure it with bleach and baking soda.
So let me see if I've got this correct. Your whole point is based on the fact that you know "fat" doctors, but no "fat" nutrionists, therefore they must know more about nutrition, and you have access to google.
Ok, I've got it.
As I said, darn good thing you're so smart.
When you contract something serious, like cancer, I sure hope google can help you. Maybe the nutritionist can help you eat better...
Wow, dude I'm starting to feel bad for you I'm all about fun online banter but I'm starting to feel like a cyber bully picking on the slow kid.
When did I say any of the things you just stated? I think this is all going to fast for you. Take a deep breath and 're read this thread you will hopefully find where you got confused.
thank you.....As I said, it is a good thing you guys are so darn smart...
you criticize people who spend $300k to $500k and 10 years of their life getting a degree and call it "fun online banter" and then tell me I'm confused? Really? Time to have a reality check young friend. Maybe google can help you.
I'm not going to pick on you anymore. I know a lot of Docs and I don't think any got their degree in 10yrs usually 4yr undergrad 4yr grad and anywhere from 3yrs up for residency add min 1 more year for fellowship. Then there is yearly CME board certification requirements really the schooling never stops.
thank you.....
I'm blushing at the compliments. We're so smart and fit.
Gee, thanks for taking it easy on me. You state all of that stuff about how hard it is, but you told me that I know nothing because I rely on one of them, and I should consult a "nutritionist" because they know more. Think. about. it.
Yeah, maybe I should stay home and use google. For heavens sake.
Maybe you should stop posting and just go fly? smh...
Again you are just making stuff up?
