Need a reference copy of STC SA793CE/new member

Hello. First, I guess I should introduce myself. I've been "lurking" around this site for years, even when most of you were on rec.aviation, but finally decided to join.

I need to help one of my customers, and would like to get a reference copy of the above STC. The current owners have proven difficult to get a hold of, and I just need some info from the STC - I'm not planning to use it to justify an installation, or anything else like that. In fact, all I really need to know is what the minimum propeller diameter allowed by the STC. If one of you could PM me a copy of the STC, I'd sure appreciate it.

But I looked up the STC being asked about, and the "Full text of the STC" section was empty. I'm not really familiar with them, but that seems rather unexpected. Is the brief description considered enough? With bureaucracies I'd be surprised if it were.

Most of the STC's, in my experience, don't have the full text. It seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Unfortunately in this case, I need the text.

Strange. Last time I looked (about a year and a half ago), the ones I was looking for had attachments attached. Usually a nice PDF with the STC info. I'm guessing since this one is dated 1988, nothing has been scanned in yet.

We can see the props called out in the STC info. Is that enough to go by?

The only other help I could find at the FAA's site was this:

No, the allowable props won't get it done. The STC will supply the max & min diameter of the Hartzell propeller, and that's what I need.

Getting copies of STCs, and their associated flight manual supplements can be tricky.

Several years ago, the law was changed and they were reclassified them as "intellectual property". It wasn't so much for STCs that had a big hardware component to them, but rather to protect those that were pretty much a paperwork exercise.

As a result, the only real, legit way to get copies of STC paperwork is through the holder. The best way is to contact them directly.

Some places are super cool about it, and you can download the STCs and AFMS right from their websites. Others you will need to contact them directly, and yet others you will be expected to pay a fee, even if it's just replacement paperwork.

What's really tricky are "orphaned" STCs. In this case you might attempt to contact the FAA certification office listed on the STC (from the database). They MIGHT be able to help you out, but as it turns out, many STCs are only on paper, and they literally have to dig through boxes of stuff to find the paperwork.

FOIA, freedom of information act request, is your friend. But the FAA makes you follow all the steps, so comply and persist.

Hi Paul,

True, but I don't think this works if the STC holder is still in business.
