Everything Offends Me
I found an airport tucked away in the middle of nowhere today, and while there, found an airplane that intrigues me a bit. It might be an ultralight, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone tell me what these planes are?

That appears to be a Mini-Max, one of a family of designs by Wayne Ison. Some can be built as part 103 ultralights, but most are too heavy and are licensed as experimental amateur-built.

Plans and kits are available at: http://www.jdtmini-max.com/

It definately has a IVO ground adjustable prop on it..:yesnod::yesnod::yesnod:

I noticed that! Also looks like it's powered by a half-VW engine.

Weird that you saw this on Saturday. I was at my airport on Sunday to change the oil on my plane and one of these was parked by one of the hangers and I wondered what it was too.

i looked kinda seriously into buying one for time building back when i was time building. you can buy them for under $10,000 and they burn like 3-4 gph.... they also dont go very fast, like 65mph or so... so like i said... a perfect time builder!!! but they only hold 5gal of gas i believe.
most have the 2 cylinder rotax in them i believe, which i think was what i didnt like about them. i like my engines w 4 cyl.... but please, that's just my opinion...

all in all, i think its a great plane, but that low horizontal strut worries me about some of the grass or rather (nongrass) strips i'd want to fly into.
