[NA]Big Ocean Theory faulty, too[NA]

Big Ocean my backside. More like illegal formation flying. They were probably chasing and IDing each other.

A sneaky boat trying to hide was probably following a second sneaky boat that's trying to hide that's probably following the first sneaky boat and both doing it all mostly blind underwater. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often...then again, maybe it does and no one tells.

At least they were going slow.

I would not bet against you on that guess. But we will never know the truth. Subs is still very secret about what they do and where they do it.

Perhaps they were distracted by debris falling from the two colliding satellites?

Odd, though, when you think about it. In the past month, we've had major news stories about mid-air collisions (Airbus vs. Canada Geese), Mid-Space collisions, and Mid-Ocean collisions.

What's next? A London Underground and a New York subway bashing into each other?

I think you are right, Frank. I'll bet it was a planned exercise that went a little too far (or too close...). Ya gotta practice those skills somehow!

If you haven't, you should read this book. Might be out of print now, but some friends of mine who shipped out on the SSNs say it is mostly dead on the truth.

Anyone else surprised the French have a submarine? I thought they surrendered them a long time ago.
