I've described it as sticking a wire charged with about 200 volts into my flesh...

Not something I live for. Okay, that's for locals in my extremities. Oral stuff I hardly notice anymore but a good dentist knows how to avoid pain.

There may be some useful info in this old thread. I'm pretty knowledgeable about dental implants but no sense repeating stuff that's already been posted. I apologize in advance for all the unnecessary verbiage I contributed on that thread. The ninth grade typing class I did so well in has caused a lot of misery on the planet.
 
I got the receptacle deal (abutment?) inserted today and it was absolutely horrible.
I've not been hit in the face with a hammer before but I'm guessing this pain is not far off.

They gave me laughing gas which I thoroughly enjoyed but the rest of the process was a stressful.

This is pretty rough.

At least its expensive.

Is it lasting pain or was it just one time. Doesn't sound right. My 20 year old daughter had pretty much no pain for her implant.

It's bad. Throbbing. I'm sure it's normal. I've for about 5 stitches in there. ****ing hurts

Seriously, bone pain sucks. If they gave you meds, take them.
 
Relax. My oral surgeon said that a little pain was normal and that ibuprofen would be fine. Fortunately my dentist disagreed and asked what level of pain management I wanted. We settled on a middle of the road dose of synthetic morphine...
 
I can fedex the leftovers to you in violation of all sorts of laws.

I posted this just to show the damn oral surgeon that I am not the addict he thinks everyone is and still have left over pain meds many years later.
 
It's all downhill now 6PC, at least you have to look forward to. Until ya need another one.

After. I took my daily limit of ibuprofen and I am feeling okay now.
They gave me hydrocodone but I am not a fan of real pills

Does one now exist with your teeth?

And have you discussed with your dentist about installing a tiny BRS in there? Or maybe some other go-go-gadget? Hidden monkey compartment maybe?

I'm not a fan of pills either, but for bone pain, I'll take them for the first three days or so. I used to be the man up gut it out type, but now I'd rather just be comfortable and get some ZZZs those first few days after surgery.

If you think that's yuck, consider how they would be feeling.

In terms of value, maybe 15-30 minutes of Vitamin-A, depending on the purity of the gold. These days I measure everything in terms of flight hours.
 
Been there, done that, but it all worked out. I'm pretty happy with it so far.
