We had an aflac insurance rep come by offering to sign up the employees (only) for their own health insurance at apparently, $27.00 each per month.
I, the employer is apparently on the hook for $0.00

Does this sound legitimate? What concerns should my spidey senses be aware of?

What benefits are they offering, what restrictions, and under what terms? Is it a primary policy, or supplemental high-limit policy?

For a while (and I don't know if it's still true) there were companies that would offer restricted policies that avoided many of the regulations. And many of those policies were worthless.

This one sounds too good to be true. I'm betting it is.

Aflac is a supplement health / disability policy. not a primary carrier... The rates sound reasonable for what they claim to pay but getting a check from any of them is gonna take a whole flock of ducks.:dunno::yikes:

I am suspicious enough. Glossy folders for each staff member. Telling people it is 'health insurance' without crucial details. Maybe it is good for the price but you got to know what you are getting.

I had thought that Aflac was short term disability insurance not health insurance. But I suppose they could offer both. Just read the brochure carefully.

I've known people that have really benefited from Aflac. But I personally don't feel a need.

This is not comprehensive coverage. Its not intended to be comprehensive coverage. Most employer offered healthcare plans cover most of the medical expenses except deductables. Most employer offered short term and long term disability plans offer 50-60% of your normal income level (before OT and bonuses).

AFLAC (and others) gives the employee cash in their pocket to help with things that are not covered by comprehensive health insurance or fall into that gap between disability pay and full pay. Deductables.. cash for fuel and groceries..(or strippers, they dont care)

Like any insurance, there will be requirements that the insured will have to meet to make a claim. That would be where any attention would need to be placed.

AFLAC is not health insurance.

It is supplemental insurance for specific situations. Very useful if the specified occurrence... occurs.

But do not delude oneself - it is not health insurance.

That is about twice what AFLAC would charge me and my SO for their supplemental insurance. BTW are you sure this is for health insurance and not their supplemental accident/disability policy? I am not aware of them being in the primary health care policy business.
